The approval, received on August 28, 2026, will enable Abakkus Mutual Fund to establish its SIF platform under the brand name ‘Fokkus’.

Through Fokkus, Abakkus Mutual Fund plans to introduce differentiated investment strategies across equity, debt and hybrid categories, in accordance with the applicable regulatory framework and subject to the requisite filings and approvals.

Fokkus will extend Abakkus Mutual Fund’s research-led investment philosophy into a new structure, combining its established approach to investing and risk management with the flexibility available under the SIF framework.

Commenting on the development, Sunil Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director, Abakkus, said:

“We are pleased to enter the SIF space, marking an exciting new chapter for Abakkus. Over the years, we have remained focused on offering differentiated investment solutions backed by research and disciplined investing. Across AIFs, PMS, Mutual Funds and now SIFs, our objective has remained consistent: to identify meaningful investment opportunities for our investors and build solutions aligned with our core investment beliefs.

“The SIF framework provides flexibility to pursue differentiated investment strategies while addressing the distinct and evolving needs of investors. We intend to use this flexibility thoughtfully, remaining anchored in our investment philosophy and focused on opportunities across market cycles. We look forward to introducing our initial set of strategies in the coming months and building this platform over time.”

Vaibhav Chugh, Chief Executive Officer, Abakkus Mutual Fund, said:

“Receiving SEBI’s nod to launch SIF offerings is a significant milestone in our journey. Our priority will be to establish robust investment processes and a strong risk-management framework for this platform.

“Investor and partner education will also be an important area of focus as we enter this relatively new investment category. We will work closely with our distribution partners to build a clear understanding of the structure, suitability and potential role of SIFs in an investor’s portfolio.

“We look forward to developing strategies that complement our existing AIF, PMS and Mutual Fund offerings and enable us to respond to evolving investor needs.”

What is a Specialised Investment Fund?

SEBI introduced the SIF framework with effect from April 1, 2025, creating an additional investment structure within the mutual fund regulatory framework. SIFs are designed to provide fund managers greater flexibility to pursue specialised investment strategies, including certain long-short strategies using derivatives, subject to regulatory limits and conditions

What investors should know about Fokkus

While the approval marks Abakkus Mutual Fund’s entry into the SIF segment, Fokkus is not yet an investment product available for subscription. The fund house is yet to announce the specific investment objectives, asset allocation, risk factors, costs, liquidity terms and launch timelines for its individual strategies. These details will be made available after completion of the requisite regulatory filings and approvals.
