If your mobile number is linked to your SBI account and your KYC is eligible for online update, you can complete the process without visiting a branch.

You are not alone if you have received a notification from State Bank of India (SBI) stating that "STOP has been placed on your Acc XXXXX..." A similar message has been sent to many SBI account customers, which has caused confusion and worry.

In today's digital environment, where the majority of payments are made automatically, the message may seem concerning. Transactions including SIP investments, OTT and other subscriptions, utility bill payments, credit card bill payments, EMI debits, and other auto-pay instructions might not process until your KYC is updated if your account is placed under a debit freeze because of pending KYC.

However, there is no need to panic. In most cases, this is a routine measure taken by the bank to comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms.

If your mobile number is linked to your SBI account and your KYC is eligible for online update, you can complete the process without visiting a branch.

  • Log in to the SBI Online portal and enter your account number and registered mobile number.

  • Check for a KYC update prompt. If your account is eligible for online KYC, a pop-up will appear asking you to complete the process.

  • You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number for verification.

  • After verifying the OTP, enter your PAN and Aadhaar details.

  • Another OTP may be sent to complete the authentication process.

  • Once verified, follow the on-screen instructions to submit the required details and complete your KYC update.

You must go to your home SBI branch if the online option is unavailable. Keep both the original and a copy of your PAN and Aadhaar cards with you. The bank will check your documents and update your records after you complete a KYC update form. The 'STOP' restriction will be lifted, and your account will be reactivated after your KYC has been successfully updated and validated.
