Dearness Allowance (DA) hike news

On April 18, the Centre approved a similar 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), continuing its policy of linking salary adjustments to inflation. Announcing the decision, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the revision will benefit about 50.46 lakh central government employees and 68.27 lakh pensioners, with an estimated annual fiscal impact of ₹6,791.24 crore.

Dearness Allowance remains a critical element of government pay structures, designed to cushion employees and pensioners against rising prices and protect their purchasing power.

With both the Centre and states like Rajasthan raising DA to 60%, lakhs of households are set to see a steady, if modest, improvement in their incomes.

For employees, the increase translates into higher monthly take-home pay and, in some cases, stronger long-term savings through provident fund contributions. Pensioners, meanwhile, gain from an immediate rise in Dearness Relief, improving cash flow.
