The early release is aimed at ensuring that pensioners and their families have access to their pension funds in time to meet their financial needs and make arrangements for the festive celebrations. EPFO also extended its greetings to all its members and pensioners on the occasion of Onam.

Under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995, monthly pensions are ordinarily disbursed at the end of each month. However, considering the upcoming Onam celebrations, EPFO made special arrangements to release the August pension earlier than the usual schedule. The pension was credited on August 26, allowing beneficiaries to access the funds ahead of the festival and avoid any inconvenience related to their regular pension payment schedule.
The EPFO’s move comes after the Centre also announced an advance disbursement of August salary and pension for Central Government employees and pensioners in Kerala ahead of Onam. Under the arrangement, August salary and wages for Central Government employees in the state, along with pension for eligible Central Government pensioners, were scheduled to be released on August 24. The advance payment was intended to help beneficiaries meet their expenses ahead of the festival.

The pension payment has been processed through EPFO’s Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS), a technology-enabled system designed to facilitate the seamless and efficient transfer of pension payments directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries. The system is aimed at making pension disbursement more convenient and efficient for pensioners across the country.

The early pension credit is particularly significant for pensioners in Kerala, as Onam is one of the state’s major festivals and involves additional household and personal expenses. Timely access to pension funds can help beneficiaries manage these expenses without having to wait until the regular month-end payment cycle.

EPFO said it remains committed to ensuring the timely delivery of social security benefits to pensioners. The organisation is also continuing to strengthen its pension services through technology-driven initiatives and citizen-centric reforms aimed at making benefit delivery more efficient, accessible and convenient.
