Why Aadhaar is needed

The Aadhaar platform is used by the Jeevan Pramaan system. You must use face authentication or biometrics to confirm your identity to generate a Digital Life Certificate.

You need a fingerprint, iris scan, or the more recent face scan. To be sure it is you, the system compares this data with your Aadhaar records.

In order to get your information and connect the certificate to your Pension Payment Order (PPO), your Aadhaar number (also known as your Virtual ID, or VID) is utilised. Because it verifies that your certificate is legitimate and can be accepted by banks or pension authorities, this step is essential.

The Jeevan Pramaan portal clearly says in its FAQ: “Yes, Aadhaar number or VID is a must for generating/obtaining the Jeevan Pramaan, i.e., Digital Life Certificate.”

UIDAI has also shared that pensioners can quickly and securely generate the certificate at home using Aadhaar Face Authentication through apps like the Jeevan Pramaan App or Aadhaar Face RD App on Android and iOS.

What is a Digital Life Certificate?

An electronic document that confirms a pensioner's life status is called a Digital Life Certificate (DLC). Pensioners can electronically submit their Life Certificate and use Aadhaar-based biometrics to verify their identification online rather than physically going to the pension office. Pension Disbursing Authorities (PDAs) can view the certificate through the Jeevan Pramaan portal when it has been uploaded.

What if I don’t have Aadhaar?

Senior citizens without Aadhaar don't have to worry because their pension will continue.

For people without Aadhaar or if biometric verification is unsuccessful, the government has created provisions. A tangible Life Certificate signed by a magistrate, gazetted officer, or bank manager can still be turned in at your post office or bank.

Submitting your Digital Life Certificate from home is now easier and quicker using Aadhaar. However, you can still get your pension without interruption even if you don't have it. Every pensioner will be able to safely and securely verify their life certificate thanks to the system's architecture.
