US Fed policy and inflation data in focus

Investors are tracking US inflation data and Federal Reserve commentary for clues about the direction of interest rates. Inflation readings can influence expectations around monetary policy, US Treasury yields and the dollar, all of which can affect international gold and silver prices.

Gold does not pay interest, so higher interest rates and rising bond yields can make it less attractive compared with interest-bearing assets. Conversely, expectations of lower rates may support bullion prices. Silver can also respond to changes in the dollar and interest-rate outlook, alongside industrial demand.

For Indian buyers, movements in the rupee against the US dollar are another important factor. A stronger rupee can reduce the cost of imported bullion, while a weaker rupee can push domestic prices higher.

Gold buying in October: Tata MF sees better entry point

With the festive season approaching, Tata Mutual Fund believes current gold prices offer a better entry point than at the start of 2026. International gold prices corrected from around $5,595 per ounce in January to approximately $4,138 in early October, a decline of about 26 per cent from the peak.

The correction has been driven partly by higher US Treasury yields and a stronger dollar. However, central-bank buying, geopolitical uncertainty and diversification of foreign exchange reserves continue to support gold's long-term investment case.

For festive shoppers and investors, lower prices may offer an opportunity to reassess gold purchases, although prices could fall further.
