Dhanteras falls on Friday, November 6, Diwali on Sunday, November 8, and Gujarati New Year on Wednesday, November 10, giving the state the longest buying window of the season.

The gold rates rose ₹270 per 10 grams in 24 karat and ₹250 in 22 karat on Wednesday, after a 3.51% fall on October 31. The rates however remain about ₹12,000 per 10 grams below October's peak.

Local jewellers usually reset their rates with the Ahmedabad bullion association's morning rate rather than the national one.

Gujarat's buyers are notably karat-conscious. The 22 karat remains the standard for the heavy jewellery sets and waist chains that dominate wedding and festival demand. The 18 karat has gained ground in Surat's diamond-studded manufacturing belt.

Manek Chowk in Ahmedabad and Surat's Ring Road clusters both see a Dhanteras rush. And many families here buy again on the Gujarati New Year.

Please note the rates above are indicative and actual store quotes may vary. So buyers should compare rates at several jewellers themselves. The final payment will also be higher than the karat-based price because making charges and 3% GST are added. For example, a 10-gram 22 karat piece with 11% making charges attracts GST of ₹4,263, taking the total to about ₹1,46,354.

Making charges can vary sharply between the two cities, so buyers should compare them store to store and insist on a BIS hallmark with a six-digit HUID on every item.
