Gold may help diversify a portfolio, but investors should consider their financial goals, risk tolerance and investment horizon rather than base decisions solely on daily price movements or market sentiment.
Gold and silver prices declined on Monday, 12 October 2026, as festive-season buyers track bullion rates ahead of Dussehra. According to Bullions.co.in, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,50,420 per 10 grams, down ₹1,300 or 0.86%, while silver stood at ₹2,24,920 per kilogram, down ₹1,220 or 0.54%.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures were trading 0.41% lower at ₹1,51,100 per 10 grams, while silver futures declined 0.16% to ₹2,25,770 per kilogram at around 9:13 AM IST. The price movements offer festive shoppers an opportunity to compare rates before purchasing jewellery or silver items, although local retail prices may differ from bullion benchmarks and futures quotations.
According to Bullions.co.in, 999 fine silver was priced at ₹225 per gram, ₹2,249 per 10 grams, ₹22,492 per 100 grams and ₹2,24,920 per kilogram. Silver 925 sterling was quoted at ₹208 per gram and ₹2,08,051 per kilogram, while 900-grade silver was priced at ₹202 per gram and ₹2,02,428 per kilogram.
Gold prices fell 8.5% in September 2026 to US$4,176 per ounce, despite strong investment demand, highlighting the influence of global economic factors on the precious metal. According to the World Gold Council’s Gold Market Commentary – Go with the Flow, rising US Treasury yields and a stronger US dollar contributed to the decline, alongside a sharp reduction in futures market positions.
For Indian investors, the contrasting trends underline that strong investment demand does not guarantee immediate price gains. Gold may help diversify a portfolio, but investors should consider their financial goals, risk tolerance and investment horizon rather than base decisions solely on daily price movements or market sentiment.
