Key focus of investors was also towards monitoring global market cues, stock-specific action and June quarter earnings season.
Dow Jones futures were trading 0.26% higher at 54,148 points ahead of the opening bell on Thursday, indicating a more than 260-point higher opening on August 7, according to Investing.com data.
The S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.46% higher at 7,770 points before the market opening on August 6, indicating around a 60-point higher open on Friday’s US market session.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures were trading 1.08% lower at 29,809 points ahead of the Wall Street open, indicating a over 400-point higher opening during the trading session on August 7, when compared to the previous US market close levels.
The equity market indices on Wall Street declined to end lower after Thursday’s trading session, as investors focused on a rebound price of crude oil above $80/barrel, amid the June quarter earnings and key economic data release.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.85% lower at 53,885.10 points after the trading session on Thursday, in comparison to 54,349.12 points at the previous stock market close, according to MarketWatch data.
The S&P 500 index ended 0.18% lower at 7,709.96 points after the trading session on August 6, compared to 7,723.55 points at the previous equity market close, as per the exchange data.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index closed 0.39% lower at 29,373.33 points after Wednesday’s trading session, compared to 29,487.79 points at the previous Wall Street close.
US Bureau of Labour Statistics data released on August 7 showed that nonfarm payroll employment declined by 23,000 jobs in the month of July 2026, due to the drop in local government education and retail trade in the period.
In contrast, the Labour Bureau data also showed that the US unemployment rate declined to 4.1% in the 12-month period ended July 2026, down from the 4.2% level in the 12-month period ended in June 2026.
“Among the unemployed, the number of people on temporary layoff increased by 153,000 to 921,000 in July. The number of permanent job losers changed little at 1.7 million,” as per the official release.
