US markets today: Equity market futures on Wall Street indicate a mixed opening on Friday, August 14, as investors analysed the key economic data released so far this week, while monitoring global market cues and crude oil prices.

Investing.com data showed that Dow Jones futures were trading 0.21% lower at 53,823 points ahead the opening bell on Friday’s market, indicating a flat or marginally lower opening on August 14.

While the S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.07% higher at 7,828 points ahead of the Wall Street open on Friday, indicating a 30-point higher opening during the trading session on August 14.

The tech-heavy index, Nasdaq futures were trading 0.22% higher at 30,252 points ahead of the equity market open, indicating a more than 160-point higher opening on the US stock market when compared to the previous stock market close.

As global benchmark crude oil, Brent crude prices were trading over $87 per barrel (bbl) on Friday’s market, investors will continue to monitor the situation in West Asia as reports emerge of attacks on commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

US markets recap

The US benchmark stock market indices ended higher after the trading session on August 13, as investors focused on the softer-than-expected wholesale inflation data released on Thursday, along with the pullback in crude oil prices and momentum amongst tech stocks.

Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed 0.13% higher at 53,839.99 points after the trading session on Thursday, in comparison to 53,770.27 points at the previous equity market close, according to MarketWatch data.

The S&P 500 index ended 0.65% higher at 7,798.99 points after the trading session on August 13, compared to 7,748.50 points at the previous Wall Street close, as per the exchange data.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index rallied to close 1.15% higher at 30,084.50 points after the trading session on Thursday, in comparison to 29,742.60 points at the previous US equity market close.

US stocks to watch on August 14

Applied Materials: Applied Materials shares were trading more than 5% lower during the pre-market hours on Nasdaq, as the company failed to impress investors with its June quarter earnings report released on Thursday’s market.

Reports suggest that concerns remain on the near-term margin of the company, as the management now focuses on building AI infrastructure, improving margins and meeting industry demand.

Micron Technology: Micron Tech shares were trading more than 3% higher during the pre-market session on August 14 ahead of the opening bell, as investors focused on the heightened signs of AI-chip demand in the market.
Western Digital Corp: Western Digital shares were trading 4% higher ahead of the opening bell during the pre-market hours on Nasdaq, as investors were trading based on the positive momentum for hardware stocks on Wall Street.
Key earnings stocks: Stocks like Aya Gold & Silver, RLX Technology, Suncrete, Cosan S.A., Sigma Lithium Corp., New Era Energy & Digital, Outlook Therapeutics and Solana Company will be in focus of the investors against the backdrop of the June quarter earnings announcement set to be released on Friday.
Tech stocks: Technology stocks SK Hynix ADR, Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD, Qualcomm, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC), are among others set to be in focus of investors due to the momentum from the Asian markets on August 14, ahead of the opening bell.
