US markets today: Equity futures on Wall Street were indicating a potential gap-up opening on Wednesday, August 5, as investors focused on the rebound in tech stocks from Asia, easing crude oil prices, and positive momentum amid the quarterly earnings season.

Dow Jones futures were trading 0.42% higher at 54,496 points ahead of the opening bell on August 5, indicating a 400-point higher opening on Wednesday’s market, according to Investing.com data.

The S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.42% higher at 7,798 points, indicating a 60-point higher opening on Wednesday’s Wall Street session, according to the exchange data.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index futures were trading 0.19% higher at 29,914 points ahead of the US stock market opening bell on August 5, as investors focused on the positive momentum and buying cues from the Asian markets.

Investors will also remain focused on the upcoming US services PMI data and the ADP national employment report, which are set to be released on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

US markets recap

The US benchmark equity market indices continued their rally during Tuesday’s market session as investors focused on positive earnings from companies like Palantir Tech and Caterpillar, among others, lower oil prices, cooling bond yields, and momentum from Asian markets.

Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 1.7% higher at 54,085.88 points after Tuesday’s trading session, compared to 53,178.41 points at the previous equity market close, as per MarketWatch data.

The S&P 500 index ended 1.79% higher at 7,736.52 points after the trading session on August 4, compared to 7,600.50 points at the previous equity market close, according to the exchange data.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index rallied to end 3.3% higher at 29,733.16 points after Tuesday’s trading session, compared to 28,776.80 points at the previous stock market close, as per the data.

US stocks to watch on August 5

Eli Lilly and Co.: Eli Lilly shares were trading 6% higher during the pre-market hours on the NYSE ahead of the opening bell on Wednesday, as investors focused on the pharmaceutical company’s June quarter earnings announcement for 2026.
Sandisk Corp.: Sandisk shares were trading 1% lower during the pre-market hours on Nasdaq as investors focused on the company’s upcoming June quarter earnings report, which is set to be released during the post-market hours on August 5.
Walt Disney Co.: Walt Disney shares were trading 3% higher during the pre-market hours on Wednesday, amid the company’s Q2 earnings announcement.
Uber Technologies: Cab hailing services platform Uber Technologies shares were trading 3% lower during the pre-market session on NYSE ahead of the company’s Q2 earnings announcement on August 5.
Key earnings stocks: Other stocks like Shopify, CVS Health Corp., DoorDash, Brookfield Asset Management, eBay, and Thomson Reuters are among other companies which are set to announce their April to June quarter results on August 5.
Tech stocks: US-listed tech stocks like SK Hynix ADR, Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD, Qualcomm, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC), Texas Instruments, ASML Holdings, and Oracle are set to be in focus on August 5, amid strong momentum from the Asian markets.

Asian market indices like Japan’s Nikkei 225 index closed 3.66% higher, while the South Korean KOSPI surged to end 3.76% higher after Wednesday’s trading session. Others like China’s Shanghai closed 1.4% higher, Hang Seng ended 0.2% higher, while in contrast, Singapore’s FTSE dropped 0.5%.
