The US Markets started the week on a negative note as rising Treasury yields and oil prices kept sentiments in check.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 0.67% to end at 51,481.51, while the S&P 500 declined 0.77% to 7,683.69. The tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite fell 0.92% to 26,820.38.

Aeroplane maker Boeing's shares descended 6.91% after the Federal Aviation Administration said that a software issue will delay certification of Boeing 737 Max 10.

In a statement, the FAA said that "safety dictates the certification timeline" and the agency was following its safety review process to "investigate this software glitch and won't hesitate to take action if needed."

A Boeing spokesperson said, "We continue to follow the lead of the FAA as we work through the certification process."

Chip stocks declined as concerns over artificial intelligence safety intensified. Shares of Arm Holdings slipped 8.7%, while Micron Technology dropped 2.61%.

The stocks of SK Hynix, Intel and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) tumbled 5.03%, 5.67% and 3.61%, respectively.

Salesforce, IBM, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, McDonald's, Tesla, SanDisk, Meta Platforms, Reddit and DoorDash, among others, also ended in red.

However, Nvidia shares buck the trend and rose 1.68% on releasing two new open-source tools to control rogue AI agents. It also approved a record $150 billion share buyback plan.

The benchmark 10-year bond yield surged up to 5.25%, a new 19-year high. The 30-year Treasury note rose as much as 5.57%, its highest level since 2004.

Brent Crude, the international benchmark, rose 1.24% to $106.58 per barrel, while the West Texas Intermediate climbed 1.04% to $93.56 a barrel.

Various key economic data will be released this week. The US Consumer Confidence data for September 2026, along with the JOLTS job opening data for August, will be released today. The August personal consumption expenditure price index will be released on Wednesday. New U.S. manufacturing data will be out on Thursday.
