India's industrial output rises to 8% in August from 6.7% in July: Govt data

Industrial production in India grew 8% year-on-year in August 2026 from 6.7% in July on the back of strong performance in manufacturing and electricity and gas supply, according to official data released on Monday.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded an 8% growth in August against 6.7% in July, the data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) showed.

Manufacturing output, which has the highest weight in the IIP, grew 9% in August.

The sector has now recorded growth of 8% or more for three consecutive months, marking a strong run of expansion.

Electricity and gas supply registered a 12.3% growth, while water supply, sewerage and waste management grew 6.3%.

Mining and quarrying, however, contracted 5.6% during the month.

The overall IIP stood at 123.3 in August 2026, compared with 114.2 in the year-ago month.
