SENSEX, NIFTY little changed at open; Medi Assist jumps over 8%; HCL Tech up 1%

As expected, domestic stocks opened on a muted note on Tuesday, August 27. At 09:18 AM, the 30-share index of the BSE, SENSEX, was trading at 81,719.74 levels, up 22 points, or 0.03%.

SENSEX MOVERS

HCL Tech (up 1.6%) was the biggest gainer on the SENSEX, followed by Power Grid (up 0.74%) and Bajaj Finserv (up 0.75%).

On the flip side, JSW Steel (down nearly 1%) was the top loser.

BROADER MARKET

The mid- and small-cap segments were outperforming the benchmark indices. The BSE MidCap index was trading at 48,748.53, up 0.22%, and the BSE SmallCap index was trading 128 points, or 0.23%, higher at 55,923.65 points.

SECTORAL INDICES

IT, pharma, and power stocks were trading with decent gains in the opening deals. The BSE IT index was quoting at 42,660.34, up 0.52%.

BUZZING STOCKS

Medi Assist Healthcare Services was trading over 8.5% higher at ₹609.75 after the company announced that Medi Assist Insurance TPA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medi Assist Healthcare Services (“Medi Assist”), has signed definitive documents to acquire 100% of Paramount Health Services.

HCL Tech shares were trading with gains as the IT services company, announced on Monday, August 26, an extension of its strategic AI-driven Engineering Services and Digital Process Operations (DPO) partnership with Xerox.

Gillette India shares hit a 52-week high of ₹9,131.60 apiece on the BSE.

On the contrary, Reliance Power continued its slide and was locked in a 5% lower circuit at ₹31.10 on the BSE.
