SUMMARY
Indian equity markets ended Monday’s session in green amid buying in banking, FMCG and financial stocks. The Nifty Bank outperformed, as the index gained over 1%. The Nifty FMCG climbed over 2%, marking its best single-day performance in the last 33 trading sessions.
NIFTY50 and SENSEX close in green led by banking and financial stocks
Indian equity benchmark indices snapped its losing streak to end higher on Monday led by banking and financial stocks. The NIFTY50 index snapped its three-day losing streak to end above the 24,900 mark, up by 0.34%. The SENSEX halted its four-day losing streak to close above the 81,500 mark, gaining 0.46%. The Bank Nifty, outperformed the frontline indices, surging over 1% to settle above the 51,100 mark. Meanwhile, the India VIX crashed about 6.5% at 14.24.
Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty FMCG climbed over 2% to a fresh record high, marking its best single-day performance in the last 33 trading sessions. Bajaj Housing IPO opened today and by 3:45 pm, the IPO was subscribed 1.55 times with the retail portion subscribed 1.33x.
In the NIFTY50 space, 26 stocks advanced, and 24 stocks declined. Hindustan Unilever (+2.85%), Shriram Finance (+2.30%), ICICI Bank (+2.09%), ITC (+1.95%), and Britannia (+1.74%) were the top gainers. Laggards included ONGC (-2.91%), Tech Mahindra (-2.48%), BPCL (-1.19%), TATA Steel (-1.14%), and NTPC (-1.06%).
Coming to the NIFTY50 index pullers and draggers, ICICI Bank (+40.14 pts), ITC (+20.42 pts), Hindustan Unilever (+16.32 pts), HDFC Bank (+13.42 pts), and Kotak Bank (+8.54 pts) were the pullers of the day. Draggers included ONGC (-7.91 pts), Tech Mahindra (-5.77 pts), NTPC (-4.5 pts), Tata Motors (-4.04 pts), and Tata Steel (-3.2 pts).
Today, the broader markets ended the day in red. The Nifty Midcap 100 declined by -0.26%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index closed down by -0.93%. Market breadth was weak on Monday as the declining stocks outnumbered the advancing stocks.
On Monday, most of the sectoral indices closed the day on a negative note. The top three gainers were Nifty FMCG (+2.04%), Nifty Private Bank (+1.12%), and Nifty Bank (+1.07%). The top three losers were Nifty Oil & Gas (-1.37%), Nifty IT (-0.73%), and Nifty Metal (-0.68%).
The key Asian indices closed on a negative note today. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped -0.72%, the Kospi fell by -0.33%, the Shanghai index declined by -1.06%, and the Hang Seng index closed down by -1.42%.
As of 3:37 PM, The Dow Jones futures were trading up by +255 points at 40,662.
