MCX trading session delayed by one hour due to technical glitch

The trading session at Multi Commodities Exchange (MCX), India's largest commodity derivatives exchange, was delayed by an hour on Tuesday, July 9, due to a technical glitch.

The trading normally starts at 9 am, but has been pushed to 10 am today due to the technical issue, MCX said in a statement issued shortly before the opening hour of trade.

"The end-of-day processes for yesterday's trade date have been delayed due to some technical issue and hence the special session will start at 9:45 AM and the market will start at 10 AM today," MCX said.

MCX timings

MCX, as a commodity derivatives transaction platform, usually operates for around 14.5 hours a day on all weekdays. There are two trading sessions – the morning session lasting from 9:00 am to 5 pm, and the evening session commencing from 5:00 pm and concluding at 11:30 pm.

Notably, trading for agri-commodities is available only in the morning session that concludes at 5 pm.

However, trading is permitted in other commodities, such as crude and other energy products; and gold, silver and other metals till 11:30 pm. Depending on daylight saving time, trading in the evening session can be permitted up to 11:55 pm between the months of November and March.

In the quarter ended March 2024, MCX had reported a net profit of ₹87.8 crore, as against a net loss of ₹5.4 crore in the year-ago period. The exchange's revenue from operations had increased 35% year-on-year to ₹181.1 crore in the final quarter of FY24.

The board of MCX, along with the solid Q4 results, had declared a final dividend of ₹7.64 per equity share for FY24.

Notably, MCX shares listed on the NSE were trading at ₹3,959.7 apiece at 09:36 am today, up 0.32% as against the last closing price.
