NSE data showed that the benchmark NIFTY50 index crashed 1.43% or 332.95 points to touch an intraday low level of 22,807.55 points on Monday’s market, in comparison to 23,140.50 points at the previous equity market close.

The BSE SENSEX also declined 1.43% or 1,063.66 points during the trading session on September 28, to touch the day’s low of 72,832.08 points, in contrast to 73,895.74 points at the previous market close.

The broader benchmark indices were dragged down by the underperforming heavyweight stocks, including banking stocks, while equity investors remained cautious amid elevated US Treasury yields, FII selling pressure and rising crude prices in the global market.

Banking stocks emerged as the biggest laggards on Monday’s market, with stocks like YES Bank, Union Bank of India, IDFC First Bank, Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank dragging the sectoral benchmark indices along with investor sentiment.

Despite the market-wide selling pressure, around 91 stocks surged to hit their 52-week high level on September 28.

Zydus Lifesciences: Shares of Zydus Lifesciences surged 2% to hit an intraday and fresh 52-week high of ₹1,228.60 apiece after the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) concluded its inspection at the company’s US facility with zero observations.

As per the latest company filing, the US FDA conducted an on-site inspection of Zydus’ pharmacovigilance and post-marketing surveillance system at its New Jersey office.

Welspun Corp.: Welspun Corp. shares touched a fresh 52-week high of ₹2,838 apiece on Monday’s market, before investors switched to booking profits amid the surge in oil prices, resulting in the stock price falling on September 28.

The company’s stock declined 4.2% to touch an intraday low of ₹2,713.20 apiece on Monday’s market as investors recorded a pullback from the year-high levels.

The metal manufacturer Welspun Corp. shares have gained 240% so far on a year-to-date (YTD) basis.

Engineers India: Shares of Engineers India surged to touch a 52-week high of ₹321.40 apiece on Monday’s market, with trading volumes surging past 8.5 million equity shares as investors now focus on the company’s Q2 earnings, with the trading window for key personnel being closed from October 1.

Last week, the company’s stock was in focus of investors as Africa’s Dangote Group partnered with Engineers India for the expansion of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex to produce 1.4 million barrels per day.

NSE data showed that the company’s stock has risen more than 55% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis so far in 2026.
