Vi said that it has secured a major AGR dues relief from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on its AGR dues (FY 2006-07 to FY 2018-19), with total principal + interest + penalty frozen as of Dec 31, 2025, and restructured across 16 years.

In its press release on January 9, the company said the following.
  1. The AGR dues (principal + interest + penalty and interest on penalty) of the company (for the period from FY 2006-07 to FY 2018-19) as of 31.12.2025 shall be frozen and shall be payable as follows:

(a) A maximum of ₹124 crore to be paid annually over the next six years, i.e., from March 2026 to March 2031;

(b) ₹100 crore to be paid annually over four years, i.e., from March 2032 to March 2035;

(c) The remaining AGR dues have to be paid in equal instalments annually over six years, i.e., from March 2036 to March 2041.

  1. A committee is to be constituted by DoT to reassess the AGR dues, whose decision shall be final. Thereafter, the reassessed amount is to be repaid between March 2036 and March 2041 in equal annual instalments.

Indus Towers jumps too

Indus Towers shares rallied as much as 5.59% to hit a high of ₹454.95, its 52-week high, following the news. Vodafone Idea is one of Indus Towers’ largest customers. Indus Towers provides telecom tower infrastructure — the towers on which mobile operators place their network equipment.

Vi rents thousands of towers from Indus to run its mobile network.

This means Indus Towers’ revenues partly depend on Vi’s ability to pay and maintain/expand its network.

Hence, positive news for Vodafone Idea will benefit Indus Towers too.
