The Vedanta Group has lined up $25 billion in investments over the next three years to expand capacities across its existing businesses through organic growth and brownfield expansions, a top company official said.
Vedanta founder and chairman Anil Agarwal, who was in the city on Wednesday, said the conglomerate would focus on its existing assets for growth, while remaining open to acquiring public sector assets if opportunities arise.
"Current capex plans are for organic growth in aluminium, copper, zinc, oil and gas. All will be brownfield expansions," he said.
"We are going to invest… around $25 billion," Agarwal said.
The capital expenditure would also support Vedanta's ambition to become one of the world's largest mining companies in critical metals, and emerge as a leading silver producer within three to four years, he said.
The group, which comprises 10 major companies, aims to grow its overall business from $30 billion to $50 billion within three years, Agarwal said.
Vedanta Oil and Gas Ltd on Thursday reported a net profit of ₹746 crore for the second quarter of FY27 (Q2 FY27) as a spike in oil prices helped offset a fall in production.
The profit compares with a loss of ₹152 crore in the preceding three months of April-June. Comparable year-on-year numbers were not available as the company came into existence only in May after demerger from Vedanta Ltd.
Oil and gas production dropped 19% year-on-year to 72,200 barrels of oil and oil equivalent gas per day. The firm realised a 40% higher price of $97 per barrel in the quarter as compared to $69.1 per barrel.
Vedanta Oil and Gas is focusing on well interventions and artificial lift optimisation to improve recovery from mature assets in Rajasthan and at the Ravva field. The company said these initiatives are helping arrest production declines, with a positive reversal trend emerging at Ravva.
Vedanta Power reported a profit before exceptional items of ₹101 crore for the September quarter, compared with a loss of ₹142 crore a year earlier, as higher electricity sales, improved realisations and stronger plant availability drove a sharp recovery in operating performance.
Reported net profit stood at ₹83 crore, compared with a loss of ₹1,688 crore in the year-earlier quarter, which included exceptional items of ₹1,547 crore. Earnings per share turned positive for the first time, at ₹0.21, the company said.
Power sales increased 26% year-on-year to 5,593 million units (MU), while net realisation rose to ₹5.20 per kilowatt-hour from ₹4.74 a year earlier, reflecting higher volumes and improved pricing.
The EBITDA margin expanded to about 14.5% from 9% in the September quarter of FY26, although it was below the 15.6% recorded in the June quarter.
Mining major Vedanta Ltd reported a more than two-fold rise in consolidated net profit to ₹3,650 crore in the quarter ended September 2026 (Q2 FY27), driven by higher commodity prices, favourable forex, and higher volumes.
In the year-ago period, the Anil Agarwal-led company had posted a consolidated net profit of ₹1,798 crore.
Revenue from operations during the second quarter increased to ₹26,356 crore from $16,736 crore a year ago.
Total expenses during the second quarter rose to ₹18,476 crore over ₹13,793 crore in the year-ago period. Vedanta's gross debt stood at ₹30,297 crore as of September 30, 2026.
"Vedanta delivered another quarter of strong operational performance...we invested ₹1,135 crore towards our growth projects, advancing capacity expansions, mine development and resource security initiatives across the portfolio.
"The consistent delivery of these milestones reflects the strength of our diversified asset base and our continued focus on volume growth, cost leadership and creating value for all stakeholders," the company's Executive Director Arun Misra said.
Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd (VAML) reported a more than two-fold jump in consolidated net profit to ₹5,167 crore for the September quarter of FY27, driven by record production, enhanced cost competitiveness, and continued progress on strategic integration initiatives.
The company had posted consolidated net profit of ₹2,373 crore in the year-ago period.
Revenue rose to ₹22,066 crore in the second quarter, from ₹15,670 crore in the year-ago period, VAML said in a filing to BSE.
"Revenue increased to ₹22,066 crore, up 41% YoY, supported by higher volumes and improved marketing mix," the company said.
Vedanta Aluminium achieved its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 6,49,000 tonnes, up 5% YoY. Value-added production reached a record 4,32,000 tonnes, up 31% YoY, while alumina production hit a new quarterly high of 8,95,000 tonnes, up 37% YoY.
