Shares of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries, which owns telecom services provider Jio, advanced in early trade following the release of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) subscription data for June 2024.

Bharti Airtel shares advanced more than 1.2% to close at ₹1,466.60 per share on the NSE.

Reliance Industries also rose up to 1% to hit a high of ₹3,015.75 per share in morning deals on NSE. The stock later closed at 0.24% higher at ₹2,999 apiece on the NSE.

Vodafone Idea Ltd shares rallied 1% to hit an intraday high of ₹16.1 apiece on the NSE. The stock pared early morning gains to close at 15.90 apiece, down 0.25%.

Telecom regulator TRAI released subscriber data for June 2024 on Tuesday, which showed Reliance Industries arm Jio and Bharti Airtel drove user base growth to 120.5 crore in the month.

According to TRAI data, Reliance Jio Infocomm added 19.11 lakh new wireless subscribers in June. As of June 30, 2024, Jio had a total user base of 48.89 crore, including wireless and wireline.

Bharti Airtel added 12.52 lakh new users net during the month. As of June 30, its user base, wireline and wireless, stood at 28.13 crore.

On the other hand, Vodafone Idea lost 8.6 lakh users in the month, bringing its user base to 12.78 crore. BSNL lost 7.25 lakh users and MTNL 3,927 users in June 2024.

Also, Bharti Airtel was the leader in the machine-to-machine segment, with 2.82 crore connections. VIL was second with 1.45 crore connections, Jio third with 67.2 lakh, and BSNL with 29.3 lakh subscribers.

"The number of total telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,203.69 million at the end of May 2024 to 1,205.64 million at the end of June 2024, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.16 per cent," the TRAI report said.
