The SENSEX surged 320.25 points, or 0.39%, to settle at 83,013.96. Meanwhile, the NIFTY index surged 92.30 points, or 0.36%, to close at the 25,422.55 level.

The SENSEX surged 320.25 points, or 0.39%, to settle at 83,013.96. Meanwhile, the NIFTY index surged 92.30 points, or 0.36%, to close at the 25,422.55 level.
Eternal Ltd led the 50-share NIFTY index, surging 2.92% to close at ₹337.85 apiece.
It was followed by buying in HDFC Life Insurance Company (2.22%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.75%), Cipla Ltd (1.31%), and Infosys (1.23%), which were among the top gainers on Thursday.
On the flipside, the losers' pack was led by Coal India, which declined 1.69%. Bajaj Finance (-1.33%), Trent (-0.93%), Tata Motors (-0.92%), and Tata Consumer Products (-0.69%) were also among the top losers of the day.
The NIFTY Midcap 100 closed 224.65 points, or 0.38%, higher at 59,073.20. The index was supported by buying in Biocon, which closed at ₹369.40, up 4.25%, a day after its subsidiary Biocon Biologics received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for two denosumab biosimilars, Bosaya and Aukelso.
It was followed by Escorts Kubota, which settled 3.78% higher after the company introduced ‘PRO588i-G’, a new combine harvester under the Kubota brand in Punjab and Haryana, in a press release on Wednesday.
LIC Housing Finance (3.62%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (3.26%), and Aurobindo Pharma (3.22%) were also among the top winners.
On the other hand, shares of Waaree Energies slipped 2.88%. The top laggards included Premier Energies (-2.35%), Page Industries (-2.28%), Ola Electric Mobility (-1.89%), and Kalyan Jewellers India (-1.68%).
NSE’s small-cap gauge, the NIFTY Smallcap 100, closed at 18,476.95, up 53.75 points or 0.29% on September 18. It was bolstered by buying in Poonawalla Fincorp, which gained 12.35% at closing.
During the session, it reached a 52-week high of ₹513.35 apiece, as the company’s board approved the preferential allotment of 3.3 crore shares to promoter Rising Sun Holdings Private Limited.
The other top gainers included Zen Technologies (5%), Swan Corp (4.23%), Newgen Software Technologies (3.95%), and Laurus Labs (3.59%).
On the contrary, Reliance Power (-2.64%), HBL Engineering (-2.41%), Godfrey Phillips India (-2.32%), Aegis Logistics (-2.01%) and the International Gemmological Institute (-1.89%) were among the top losers.
