The Indian equity benchmarks erased intraday gains and ended on a flat note on Friday, September 5. The SENSEX rose as much as 318 points and erased all gains in noon deals while the NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,832 and a low of 24,621 as gains in Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and Maruti Suzuki were offset with losses in ITC, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro and Hindustan Unilever.

The SENSEX ended points lower at 80,711 and NIFTY50 index advanced 7 points to close at 24,741.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

ITC was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock rose 1.92% to close at ₹408. Cipla (-1.69%), HCL Technologies (-1.61%), TCS (-1.49%) and Tech Mahindra (-1.49%) were also among the losers.

Eicher Motors was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock rose 2.41% to close at ₹6,580. Mahindra & Mahindra (2.34%), Shriram Finance (1.68%), Maruti Suzuki (1.64%) and Dr Reddy's Labs (1.33%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index rose 0.2% or 116 points to close at 57,075. As many as 60 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended higher while 40 closed lower.

The central government is looking for an investor who will buy a 12-13% stake in Vodafone Idea, investing around $1 billion (₹8,800 crore) to help the telecom firm, The Economic Times reported citing people aware of the matter.

BSE (4.66%), Indus Towers (4%), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (3.76%) and Glenmark (3.18%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Ola Electric dropped 6.65% to close at ₹60.21 after SVF II Ostrich (DE) LLC, the investment arm of Japan’s SoftBank, sold 2.15% of its stake in the electric vehicle (EV) company between July 15 and September 2, 2025.

SoftBank’s investment arm disposed of an aggregate of 94.9 million shares in Ola Electric Mobility, a regulatory filing dated Thursday said.

"SVF II OSTRICH (DE) LLC has disposed of an aggregate of 94,943,459 equity shares of Ola Electric Mobility Limited in a series of disposals undertaken between July 15, 2025, and September 2, 2025, with the disposal on September 2, 2025, breaching the 2% threshold specified in Regulation 29(2) of the SEBI Takeover Regulations," the filing stated.

Persistent Systems (-3.07%), Prestige Estates (-2.72%), Torrent Power (-2.31%) and PI Industries (-2.30%) were also among the laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 0.2% or 33 points to close at 17,655. As many as 55 shares in the index ended higher while 43 closed lower.

Brainbees Solutions was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 13.54% to close at ₹400. The rise in the share price comes after the government announced GST reforms. According to the new GST regulations, apparel priced up to ₹2,500 will now be taxed at 5%, compared with 12% earlier.

The company produces and sells a vast range of products for mothers, babies and kids through its e-commerce platform, FirstCry.com, along with its own brands like Pine Kids. Its extensive product catalogue includes baby gear, apparel, footwear, toys, personal care items, and more, catering to children up to 12 years old.

Godfrey Philips (5.79%), BEML (3.47%), KFIN Technology (2.87%) and CAMS (1.92%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Firstsource Solutions (-3.22%), Narayana Hrudayalaya (-2.86%), Ramco Cements (-2.23%), Dr Lal Pathlabs (-2.09%) and Navin Fluorine (-2.06%) were losers the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
