The Indian equity benchmarks fell for a seventh straight session on Monday, September 29, dragged down by weakness in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki, Infosys and Reliance Industries. The benchmarks staged a gap up opening but gave up gains in noon deals owing to heightened volatility a day ahead of monthly derivatives expiry.

The SENSEX fell as much as 603 points from the day's highest level and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,606 after hitting high of 24,791.

The SENSEX ended 62 points lower at 80,365 and NIFTY50 index declined 20 points to close at 24,635.

NIFTY50 gainers and losers

Maruti Suzuki was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 1.76% to close at ₹16,000 on account of profit booking after the stock touched record high in the previous session.

Axis Bank (-1.73%), Dr Reddy's Labs (-1.13%), HDFC Life (-1.07%) and Eicher Motors (-1.04%) were also among the losers.

On the flipside, IndusInd Bank was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock rose 3.07% to close at ₹734.60. Titan (2.70%), Hindalco (1.65%), State Bank of India (1.55%) and Wipro (1.55%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index advanced 0.27% or 155 points to close at 56,533. As many as 61 shares in the index ended higher while 39 closed lower.

Hindustan Petroleum (4.68%), Bandhan Bank (4.63%), Aditya Birla Capital (3.93%) and Hindustan Zinc (3.81%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Cochin Shipyard was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 5.03% to close at ₹1,780. Dixon Technologies (-4.75%), Adani Total Gas (-3.01%), Bharti Hexacom (-2.77%) and Apollo Tyres (-2.67%) were also among the laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index slipped 0.07% or 12 points to close at 17,549. A total of 59 shares ended lower while 41 ended higher.

Firstsource Solutions was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 6.43% to close at ₹329. Zen Technologies (-5%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (-4.09%), Kaynes Technologies (-3.75%) and Aditya Birla Real Estate (-3.63%) were also among the losers.

On the contrary, Redington was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 11% to close at ₹294. Godfrey Phillips (5.94%), IIFL (4.69%), Karur Vysya Bank (4.06%) and Neuland Labs (3.82%) were also among the gainers.
