Top gainers and losers on September 2: Dr. Reddy’s Lab falls 2%, Tata Consumer, Nestle surge 2%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in the negative territory on Tuesday, September 2, weighed down by last-hour profit-taking in banking and auto shares amid caution ahead of the GST Council meeting.

The SENSEX dropped 206.61 points or 0.26% to close at 80,157.88. Similarly, the 50-share NIFTY declined 45.45 points or 0.18% to settle at 24,579.60.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was dragged down by selling in Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, which closed 2.34% lower at ₹1,250 apiece.

It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (-2.33%), ICICI Bank (-1.42%), Asian Paints (-1.25%), and Cipla (-1.21%), which were among the top losers on Tuesday.

On the flipside, the top gainers pack was led by Tata Consumer Products, which surged 2.77%. Nestle India (2.22%), Power Grid Corporation of India (2.20%), NTPC (1.80%), and Tata Steel (1.46%) trailed Tata Consumer Products.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, settled at 56,977.40, up 151.90 points or 0.27%. The index was propelled by buying in tyre manufacturer MRF, which closed 5.55% and hit a 52-week high of ₹1,55,000 apiece, ahead of the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) meeting with the GST Council, chaired by the Union Finance Minister, on September 3 and 4.

ATMA on Monday sought a reduction of GST rates on tyres for automobiles to 5% from the current 28%, and asked the government not to treat them on par with luxury goods.

It was followed by Rail Vikas Nigam (4.89%), National Aluminium Company (4.89%), NMDC (4.71%), and Apollo Tyres (4.15%), which were among the top winners.

On the other hand, shares of Indus Towers declined 2.95%. The top laggards included Tube Investments of India (-2.89%), UPL (-2.45%), Vishal Mega Mart (-2.11%), and Motilal Oswal Financial Services (-2.08%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 closed 93.20 points or 0.53% higher at 17,591.30 on September 2. It was bolstered by ITI (6.54%), Ircon International (5.35%), KEC International (5.32%), Reliance Power (5%), and Tata Teleservices (4.99%), which were among the top gainers.

On the contrary, Godfrey Phillips India (-4.84%), Five-Star Business Finance (-3.68%), Welspun Corp (-3.11%), Indiamart Intermesh (-2.01%), and Multi Commodity Exchange of India (-1.84%) were among the top gainers.
