Top gainers and losers on September 12: Hindalco, NTPC, and Bharti Airtel are among top NIFTY movers

NIFTY and SENSEX closed nearly 2% higher after hitting record highs in intraday trade. Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, NTPC and Shriram Finance were the top NIFTY gainers. Nestle India Limited was the only loser among both NIFTY and SENSEX constituents.

NIFTY above 25,400, SENSEX gains 1,439 points

Benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY closed in the green on Thursday, September 12, driven by massive buying across sectors. The NIFTY50 index settled at 25,388 points, up by 470 points, or 1.89%. During the intraday trade, the key index hit a record high of 25,433.

BSE SENSEX surged 1,439 points, or 1.77%, to settle at 82,962. The index surged to an intraday high of 83,116, driven by rally across all sectors.

Among the sectoral indices, NIFTY Metal and NIFTY Auto were the top gainers, closing higher by 2.87% and 1.93%, respectively. On the other hand, NIFTY Realty and NIFTY Media closed nearly flat at 0.68% and 0.38%, respectively. Out of the total 50 NIFTY constituents, 1 closed in the negative territory and 49 closed in the green.

Hindalco and Bharti Airtel emerge as top NIFTY gainers

Hindalco Industries Ltd shares gained the most among NIFTY constituents. Shares of Hindalco Industries closed at ₹674.6 apiece, up by 4.15%. The stock gained over 4% to hit an intraday high of ₹677.9 apiece.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel’s stock traded higher by more than 4% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,652.8 apiece during the session. The stock settled 3.56% higher at ₹1,634 apiece.

Shares of NTPC Ltd gained over 4% to hit an intraday high of ₹406.25 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed higher by 3.36% at ₹402.75 per share.

Shriram Finance shares gained more than 4% to hit an intraday high of ₹3412.4 apiece. The stock closed 3.36% higher at ₹3,390 apiece on the NSE.

Shares of Grasim gained more than 3% to trade at an intraday high of ₹2765 apiece before closing at ₹2,760.1, up by 2.94%.

Among other NIFTY constituents, JSW Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra and Eicher Motors closed higher by up to 2.94% on September 12.

Nestle India only loser

FMCG major Nestle India Ltd was the only loser among NIFTY and SENSEX stocks. The stock dipped over 1% to hit an intraday low of ₹2,488 apiece and closed flat at ₹2,524 apiece, down by 0.11% on the NSE.

The stock also closed in the red at ₹2,524.15 apiece, down 0.09%, on the BSE.

On the other hand, shares of Asian Paints closed nearly flat at ₹3,368.95 per share, up 0.4%, on the NSE. Tata Consultancy Services shares also closed flat at ₹4,495.3 apiece, up by 0.36%, followed by SBI Life Insurance Company shares, which closed flat at ₹1,867 apiece, up 0.42%.
