The Indian equity benchmarks snapped their four-day winning streak on Wednesday, October 8, dragged down by selling pressure in index heavyweights like Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, State Bank of India and Bharat Electronics. The SENSEX fell as much as 281 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 25,008.50. The SENSEX ended 153 points lower at 81,774 and NIFTY50 index declined 62 points to close at 25,046.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Tata Motors was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 2.54% to close at ₹680 after its luxury subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) had shared September quarter updates. The stock has been falling for the fourth consecutive day.

JLR will begin the phased restart of its manufacturing operations on Wednesday starting at the Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre (EPMC), where engines are built, and the Battery Assembly Centre (BAC), both located in the West Midlands, UK.

Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.94%), Jio Financial Services (-1.68%), Ultratech Cement (-1.67%) and Bharat Electronics (-1.63%) were also among the losers.

On the flipside, Titan was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock rose 4.29% to close at ₹3,565 after the country's largest jewellery retailer announced its business update for the second quarter of current financial year (Q2FY2025-26) on Tuesday, October 7.

Titan’s consumer businesses grew 20% year-on-year (YoY) in Q2 FY26, with a net addition of 55 stores during the quarter, taking the company’s combined retail network to 3,377 stores as of September 2025.

Its domestic business grew about 18% year-on-year in the reporting quarter, with 54 net store additions and a total of 3,345 domestic stores as of September 2025.

Infosys (2.30%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.94%), HCL Technologies (1.33%) and Tech Mahindra (1.20%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index fell 0.73% or 423 points to close at 57,867. As many as 74 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended lower while 26 closed lower.

Oberoi Realty was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 4.19% to close at ₹1,568. Tube Investments of India (-2.73%), Aditya Birla Capital (-2.72%), IREDA (-2.58%) and Dabur India (-2.57%) were also among the laggards.

On the other hand, NALCO was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 2.99% to close at ₹223.55. SBI Cards (1.78%), Tata Consumer Products (1.65%), Federal Bank (1.61%) and Hitachi Energy (1.55%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index declined 0.52% or 93 points to close at 17,891. Kaynes Technology was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 5.57% to close at ₹7,170.

Anant Raj (4.84%), Aegis Vopak Terminals (-3.15%), Dr Lal Pathlabs (-2.55%) and Ola Electric (-2.55%) were also among the losers.

On the contrary, Aster DM Healthcare (5.15%), IFCI (3.78%), Karur Vysya Bank (2.94%), Hindustan Copper (2.93%) and IIFL (2.84%) were gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
