The SENSEX ended 567 points higher at 84,779, and the NIFTY50 index advanced 171 points to close at 25,966, mirroring gains in equities globally.
In Monday's session, the SENSEX rose as much as 720 points, and the NIFTY50 index moved above its important psychological level of 26,000 at the day's highest level.
Grasim Industries led the NIFTY50 pack, surging 3.22%. It was followed by buying in SBI Life Insurance Company (3.16%), Bharti Airtel (2.65%), State Bank of India (2.48%), and Reliance Industries (2.18%), which were among the top gainers.
Bharti Airtel’s shares rose after the Supreme Court permitted the Central government to consider the telco’s plea for quashing DoT's additional adjusted gross revenue demands for the period up to 2016-17. "No reason why Centre should be prevented from reconsidering the issue," said the top court.
Reliance Industries’ stock was among the top gainers after Reliance Intelligence Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of RIL, incorporated Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Ltd (REIL). Reliance will hold 70% in REIL, while Meta Platforms Inc's Facebook Overseas will hold a 30% interest in the AI venture. The two companies have committed an initial investment of ₹855 crore in the AI venture.
On the flip side, Kotak Mahindra Bank lost 1.72% after it reported a 3% YoY decline in its net profit to ₹3,253 crore in Q2FY26, compared to ₹3,344 crore in the same period last year.
Bharat Electronics (-1.60%), Bajaj Finance (-0.66%), Adani Enterprises (-0.57%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (-0.53%) were among the top losers on Monday.
The NIFTY Midcap 100 rose 0.93% or 548.95 points to 59,780.15 on October 27, bolstered by gains in Bank of India, which increased by 5.05%. It was followed by Bharti Hexacom (4.36%), Vodafone Idea (4.16%), Coforge (4.03%), and Coromandel International (3.75%), which were among the top winners.
During the day, Vodafone Idea’s shares surged as much as 9.87% to hit a 52-week high of ₹10.57 apiece amid news reports that the Centre said it was willing to reconsider the telco's request in the AGR case and the Supreme Court allowed the Union to take a decision, as it is in the policy domain.
On the contrary, shares of SBI Cards and Payment Services settled 3.33% lower, leading the losses. The top laggards also included SRF Ltd (-2.18%), Exide Industries (-2.11%), Alkem Laboratories (-1.73%), and Blue Star (-1.34%).
NSE’s small-cap gauge, the NIFTY Smallcap 100, closed 149.70 points or 0.82% higher at 18,403.05. It was supported by buying in Firstsource Solutions (7.86%), HBL Engineering (6.17%), Welspun Corp (4.41%), Aditya Birla Real Estate (4.33%), and Swan Corp (4.32%).
On the other hand, Zen Technologies (-3.76%), Wockhardt (-3.07%), Cholamandalam Financial Holdings (-3.06%), Neuland Laboratories (2.27%), and First Cry (-2.24%) were among the top losers.
