Top gainers and losers on October 17: Asian Paints, Mahindra & Mahindra, Max Healthcare shares rise over 2.2%; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks rose for a third straight session on Friday, October 17, powered by gains in banking shares. During the session both SENSEX and NIFTY surged to their respective fresh 52-week highs and measure of banking stocks surged to its all-time high ahead of Diwali.

The SENSEX rose as much as 705 points to hit 52-week high of 84,172.24 and NIFTY50 index advanced as much as 196 points to hit 52-week high of 25,781.50.

The NIFTY Bank index climbed as much as 408 points to hit record high of 57,830.20.

The SENSEX ended 485 points higher at 83,952 and NIFTY50 index rose 125 points to close at 25,710.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Asian Paints was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock rose 4.07% to close at ₹2,508. Mahindra & Mahindra (2.67%), Bharti Airtel (2.31%), Max Healthcare (2.19%) and Hindustan Unilever (1.64%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Wipro was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 5.17% to close at ₹241 a day after it reported its second quarter earnings.

The Bengaluru-based IT company on Thursday reported net profit of ₹3,246 crore for the second quarter of current financial year, marking an annual increase of 1.17% from ₹3,209 crore in the same period last year.

On a sequential basis, however, Wipro's net profit declined 2.53% from ₹3,330 crore in the previous quarter.

Wipro's revenue from operations rose 2% annually to ₹22,697 crore from ₹22,302 crore in the same period last year.

Wipro expects its revenue from IT services business to be in range of $2,591 million to $2,644 million translating into sequential guidance of (-)0.5% to (+)1.5% in constant currency terms for December quarter.

Infosys (-2.08%), Eternal (-1.47%), Tata Steel (-1.44%) and HCL Technologies (-1.20%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index fell 0.57% or 339 points to close at 58,902. As many as 70 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended lower while 30 closed lower.

Swiggy was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 3.38% to close at ₹433. YES Bank (-3.37%), Mphasis (-3.18%), Waaree Energies (-2.67%) and PB Fintech (-2.57%) were also among the losers.

On the other hand, Bharti Hexacom was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 3.98% to close at ₹1,820.

Godfrey Phillips (2.67%), M&M Financial Services (2.63%), Bharat Dynamics (2.33%) and Muthoot Finance (2.03%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index declined 0.05% or 9 points to close at 18,122. As many as 70 shares ended lower while 30 closed lower.

Credit Access Graameen was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock dropped 7.79% to close at ₹1,284.

Jindal SAW (-5.63%), PCBL (-4.05%), Afcons (-3.90%) and Nuvama Wealth Management (-2.93%) were also among the laggards.

On the contrary, Whirlpool of India was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock surged 11% to close at ₹1,370 after the company executed key documents such as brand license agreement with Whirlpool Properties, Inc., technology license agreement with Whirlpool Corporation, services agreement with Whirlpool Asia LLP, Transitional services agreement with Whirlpool Corporation and deed of assignment of intellectual property with Whirlpool Corporation read with accompanying confirmatory assignment deeds.

Delhivery (4.21%), Radico Khaitan (3.94%), Laurus Labs (3.23%) and PG Electroplast (3.16%) were also among the gainers.
