Top gainers and losers on May 8: Shriram Finance, Eternal, Mahindra & Mahindra fall over 3.5%; check full list

SUMMARY

For most part of the day, the benchmarks traded in a narrow range but fell sharply in last 30 minutes of trade after reports of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan surfaced. The SENSEX fell 412 points to close at 80,335 and NIFTY50 index declined 141 points to settle at 24,274.

Both the midcap and smallcap indices were outperforming the equity benchmark indices during the intraday period.

The Indian equity benchmarks ended lower on Thursday, May 8, dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Eternal and Bajaj Finance. For most part of the day, the benchmarks traded in a narrow range but fell sharply lower in last 30 minutes of trade after reports of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan surfaced. The SENSEX fell 412 points to close at 80,335 and NIFTY50 index declined 141 points to settle at 24,274.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Shriram Finance was top loser, in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 4.48% to close at ₹608.10. Eternal (-4.18%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-3.55%), Adani Enterprises (-3.53%) and Hindalco (-3.19%) were also among the losers.

On the flipside, Axis Bank was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares. The stock rose 0.75% to close at ₹1,170. HCL Technologies (0.56%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.54%), Titan (0.18%) and Tata Motors (0.01%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index fell 1.95% or 1,058 points to close at 53,229.30. As many as 94 out of 100 shares ended lower. UPL was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 6.10% to close at ₹646.

Torrent Power (-5.59%), Jubilant FoodWorks (-5.47%), Godrej Properties (-5.12%) and Paytm (-5.07%) were also among the laggards.

On the other hand, Coforge was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 1.17% to close at ₹7,789. Vishal Mega Mart (0.77%), Motilal Oswal (0.77%), Bharat Dynamics (0.49%) and Mazagon Dock (0.38%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index fell 1.43% or 234 points to close at 16,184. As many as 83 shares in the 100-share index ended lower. Devyani International was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock fell 6.58% to close at ₹171. Inox Wind (-4.93%), Laurus Labs (-4.54%), Hindustan Copper (-4.16%) and IRCON (-4.12%) were also among the gainers.

On the contrary, Firstsource Solutions was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 3.55% to close at ₹325. Inventurus Knowledge Solutions (2.62%), Neuland Laboratories (2.51%), Zensar Technologies (1.92%) and Data Patterns (1.64%) were also among the losers.
