SUMMARY
The SENSEX and NIFTY50 indices snapped their seven-day winning streak on Wednesday, March 26 on account of profit booking a day ahead of weekly expiry of NIFTY50 futures and option contracts. The SENSEX dropped as much as 823 points.

The SENSEX and NIFTY50 indices snapped their seven-day winning streak on Wednesday, March 26 on account of profit booking a day ahead of weekly expiry of NIFTY50 futures and option contracts. The SENSEX dropped as much as 823 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 23,451.70 dragged down by weakness in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Infosys, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank. The SENSEX ended 728.69 points or 0.93% lower at 77,288.50 and NIFTY50 index declined 181.80 points or 0.77% to settle at 23,486.85.
NTPC was top loser in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock fell 3.52% to close at ₹354.05. The company informed exchanges that its Nokh Solar PV Project is Rajasthan has commenced its commercial operations from today. With this the total installed commercial capacity of NTPC on standalone and group basis has now become 59,413 MW and 77,806.50 MW respectively.
Tech Mahindra (-3.09%), Cipla (-2.49%), Axis Bank (-2.19%) and Bajaj Finance (-2.18%) were also among the losers.
On the flipside, IndusInd Bank was top NIFTY50 gainer, the stock rose 3.34% to close at ₹658.30 on account of short covering, analysts said.
Trent (2.37%), Hero MotoCorp (0.69%), Grasim (0.61%) and Power Grid (0.45%) were also among the gainers.
Mid- and small-cap shares fell for second straight session on Wednesday. The NIFTY Midcap 100 index fell 0.62% to close at 51,646.15. As many as 68 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended lower while 32 closed higher. IREDA was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock declined 4.27% to close at ₹162.70. The company informed exchanges that it raised ₹910.37 core through privately placed tier-II bonds.
Max Healthcare (-4.16%), Container Corporation (-3.74%), HUDCO (-3.63%) and BSE (-3.60%) were also among the laggards.
On the other hand, AU Small Finance Bank was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index. The stock rose 2.98% to settle at ₹574.50. JSW Infrastructure (2.81%), Marico (2.43%), Ashok Leyland (2.08%) and Tata Communications (1.70%) were also among the gainers.
NIFTY Smallcap 100 index declined 1.07% to close at 15,936.75. As many as 85 shares in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended lower while 15 ended higher. Tejas Networks was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock fell 5.84% to close at ₹751.
RITES (-5.44%), SW Solar (-5.34%), Inox Wind (-4.92%) and Creditaccess Grameen (-4.75%) were also among the losers.
On the flipside, Aavas Financiers was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock rose 2.86% to close at ₹2,013. RBL Bank (2.06%), Affle India (1.75%), Jupiter Wagons (1.66%) and NCC (1.65%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
