SUMMARY
The 30-share SENSEX snapped its five-day losing streak on Monday, March 17 and the NIFTY50 index reclaimed its important psychological level of 22,500 led by gains in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank.
KEC International was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock advanced 8.2% to close at ₹726.70.
The 30-share SENSEX snapped its five-day losing streak on Monday, March 17 and the NIFTY50 index reclaimed its important psychological level of 22,500 led by gains in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank. The SENSEX rose 341 points to close at 74,169.95 and NIFTY50 index advanced 111.55 points to close at 22,508.75. During the session NIFTY50 index touched and intraday high of 22,577 and low of 22,353.
Dr Reddy's Labs was top NIFTY50 gainer, the stock rose 3.93% to close at ₹1,151.50. The company post market hours on Thursday, March 13, issued a nationwide recall of Levetiracetam in 0.75% Sodium Chloride Injection 1,000 mg/100 mL, in the US, due to mislabeling of infusion bag. SBI Life (3.89%), Bajaj Finserv (3.74%), Trent (2.54%) and Axis Bank (2.36%) were also among the gainers.
On the other hand, Wipro was top NIFTY50 loser, the stock declined 1.53% to close at ₹259.95. Bharat Petroleum (-1.13%), Hero MotoCorp (-1.11%), ITC (-1.03%) and Nestle India (-0.96%) were also among the losers.
NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended 0.70% higher at 48,461.80. As many as 69 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index closed higher while 31 ended lower. HUDCO was top NIFTY Midcap 100 gainer, the stock closed 5.11% higher at ₹190 on the back of heavy trading volumes. A total of 6.67 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE as against an average of 3.62 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks. Muthoot Finance (4.45%), Voltas (4.06%), UPL (4.02%) and Jubilant Foodworks (3.92%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Tube Investments of India was top loser from the NIFTY Midcap 100 space, the stock declined 3.03% to close at ₹2,838. Prestige Estates (-2.83%), MRPL (-2.55%), Bank of Maharashtra (-2.36%) and AU Small Finance Bank (-2.15%) were also among the laggards.
The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 0.70% to close 14,968. A total of 46 shares in the index ended higher while 53 closed lower and one stock ended unchanged. KEC International was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock advanced 8.2% to close at ₹726.70 after the company on Saturday informed exchanges that it won new orders worth ₹1,267 crore across its various businesses. IEX (5.82%), Karur Vysya Bank (5.35%), Atul (5.11%) and Chambal Fertilizers (4.14%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Firstsource Solutions was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 basket of shares, the stock fell 7.91% to close at ₹279. Happiest Minds (-3.88%), Sonata Software (-3.46%), Apar Industries (-3.41%) and RailTel Corporation (-3.07%) were also among the losers.
