Top gainers and losers on January 28: Bharat Electronics surges 9%, ONGC advances 8.2%; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks ended the first session of February futures and option series on a strong note. The SENSEX rose as much as 646 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 25,372 powered by gains in the index heavyweights like Bharat Electronics, Reliance Industries, Eternal, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance and Mahindra & Mahindra. The market sentiment improved with the start of budget session of parliament as market participants pined hopes on sustained economic reforms from the government.

The SENSEX ended 487 points higher at 82,345 and NIFTY50 index advanced 167 points to settle at 25,343.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Bharat Electronics was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock jumped 9.2% to close at ₹454 after it reported a consolidated net profit of ₹1,579 crore, marking an increase of 20.4% from ₹1,311 crore in the same period last year.

The company's revenue from operations grew 24% to ₹7,154 crore in the October-December quarter (Q3 FY26) as compared to ₹5,771 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

ONGC advanced 8.18% to close at ₹268 after the company post market hours on Tuesday announced signing an agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries for the construction of two state-of-the-art Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs).

Meanwhile, in a strategic move to boost offshore energy exploration and operational efficiency, ONGC and Reliance Industries have signed an agreement to share resources such as supply vessels used in finding and producing oil and gas.

The two firms signed an MoU for resource-sharing collaboration on the sidelines of India Energy Week (IEW), ONGC Director (Production) Pankaj Kumar said.

Coal India (5.27%), Eternal (5.06%) and Hindalco (4.28%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Tata Consumer Products fell 4.55% to close at ₹1,133. Asian Paints (-4.22%), Maruti Suzuki (-2.39%), Sun Pharma (-1.89%) and Max Healthcare (-1.59%) were also among the top losers in the NIFTY50 index.

NIFTY Midcap 200 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index advanced 1.66% or 955 points to close at 58,439. As many as 79 shares ended higher while 21 closed lower.

Oil India was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index; the stock rose nearly 10% to close at ₹492.80 after crude oil prices surged in international markets. Brent Crude price moved above $67 per barrel.

Motilal Oswal rose 7.53% to close at ₹787 after the company reported a 58% surge in its consolidated net profit to ₹721 crore for the December quarter of 2025, driven by robust growth in its assets and private wealth management business.

It had posted a net profit of ₹456 crore in the year-ago period.

The company's operating profit after tax (PAT) stood at ₹611 crore, marking a rise of 16% on a year-on-year basis and a 10% growth sequentially.

Bharat Dynamics (7.18%), Cochin Shipyard (7.08%) and RVNL (6.25%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

On the other hand, Vishal Mega Mart (-3.66%), Bharti Hexacom (-2.95%), Tata Communications (-1.56%), Marico (-1.43%) and Lupin (-0.88%) were top laggards in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index surged 2.26% or 372 points to settle at 16,791. A total of 81 shares ended higher while 19 ended lower.

Tejas Networks was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock climbed 14% to close at ₹338. Data Patterns (13.52%), Hindustan Copper (13.48%), International Gemmological Institute (10%) and BEML (9.99%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY50 index.

On the contrary, Radico Khaitan (-5.34%), Aegis Vopak Terminals (-3.28%), Inventurus Knowledge Solutions (-2.66%), Five-Star Business Finance (-1.78%) and Kajaria Ceramics (-1.68%) were top losers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
