Top gainers and losers on August 28: Shriram Finance, HCL Tech, Power Grid fall over 2%; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks fell for second straight session on Thursday, August 28, as investor sentiment turned bearish after higher tariffs of 50% on Indian goods exported to the United States took effect from Wednesday, August 27. The SENSEX fell as much as 774 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,481 dragged down by losses in heavyweights like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Infosys, Bharti Airtel and Tata Consultancy Services.

The SENSEX ended 706 points lower at 80,080.57 and NIFTY50 index declined 211 points to close at 24,500.90.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Shriram Finance was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 3.94% to close at ₹571.25. HCL Technologies, Power Grid, Tata Consultancy Services and Tata Consumer Products also fell between 1.8-2.85%.

On the flipside, Titan, Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, Larsen & Toubro and Maruti Suzuki were among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index dropped 719 points or 1.27% to close at 56,047. As many as 86 shares in the index ended lower while 14 closed higher.

Adani Total Gas was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 7.2% to close at ₹589.90. Aditya Birla Fashion and retail, IRB Infra, Bharti Hexacom and Page Industries also fell between 3.53-5.66%.

On the other hand, Ola Electric was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock surged 8% to close at ₹54.90 after the company on Tuesday said that it has secured Production Linked Incentive (PLI) certification for its Gen 3 scooter portfolio, a move expected to boost profitability from the second quarter of fiscal 2026.

The certification, granted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, covers all seven models in Ola’s Gen 3 scooter lineup, including its flagship S1 Pro and S1 X variants.

Waaree Energies advanced 4% after the company on Tuesday, its US arm Waaree Solar Americas bagged a 425-megawatt (MW) supply order for advanced solar modules.

The company announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary received a solar module order from a renowned American developer and owner-operator of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across the US.

Kalyan Jewellers, Petronet LNG and Voltas also rose between 0.97-2.4%.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index fell 1.45% or 254 points to close at 17,294. As many as 82 shares in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended lower while 18 ended higher.

Poonawalla Fincorp was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 5.58% to close at ₹427.45. Brainbees Solutions, CESC, Shyam Metalics and Sagility India also fell 3.76-5.2%.

On the contrary, Action Construction Equipment was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 2.33% to close at ₹1,067.10.

Swan Energy, RK Forgings, Bata India and Brigade Enterprises also rose between 1.15-1.82%.
