The Indian benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY closed in the negative territory on Tuesday, August 26, after the US notified of an additional 25% tariff on Indian merchandise.

The SENSEX fell 849 points, or 1.04%, to settle at 80,786.54. Furthermore, the NIFTY50 index slipped 256 points, or 1.02%, to close at 24,712.05

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY50 pack was weighed down by selling in Shriram Finance, which closed 4.03% lower at ₹595.85 apiece. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceuticals (-3.35%), Tata Steel (-2.87%), Bajaj Finance (-2.75%), and Trent (-2.45%), which were among the top laggards.

On the contrary, Eicher Motors (2.68%), Hindustan Unilever (2.32%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.85%), ITC (1%), and Nestle India (0.54%) were the top gainers on Tuesday.

NIFTY MIDCAP 100 top gainers and losers

The NSE Midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, ended at 56,766.20, down 935.50 points or 1.62%, dragged down by Vodafone Idea, which declined 9.05% to close at ₹6.07 per equity share, as Minister of State for Communications Chandra S Pemmasani has ruled out any further relief to the debt-laden telecom operator.

It was trailed by Bandhan Bank (-3.48%), PB Fintech (-3.41%), Bharat Dynamics (-3.33%), and Solar Industries India (-3.26%), which were the top losers.

On the flipside, Waaree Energies soared 5.39% to close at ₹3,321.10 after its wholly owned subsidiary, Waaree Solar Americas, secured a major order for the supply of 452 megawatts (MW) of solar modules on August 26.

It was followed by Ola Electric Mobility, which gained 4.45%, on the back of securing a PLI certification for its Generation 3 scooter portfolio.

The other top gainers include Vishal Mega Mart (1.55%), L&T Finance (1.06%), and NTPC Green Energy (0.83%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 declined by 362.95 points or 2.03% to close at 17,548.60. Its top laggards included Swan Energy (-5.73%), Firstsource Solutions (-5.03%), Navin Fluorine International (-4.99%), Piramal Enterprises (-4.87%), and Kfin Technologies (-4.80%).

Conversely, Afcons Infrastructure (2.77%), Devyani International (2.61%), Go Digit General Insurance (2.02%), PVR INOX (1%), and Titagarh Rail Systems (0.75%) were among its top winners.
