The Indian equity benchmarks snapped their six-day winning streak on Friday, August 22, as investors resorted to profit booking after six days of gains. The SENSEX ended 694 points lower at 81,307 and NIFTY50 index dropped 214 points or 0.85% to close at 24,870 dragged down by losses in heavyweights HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, ITC, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Consultancy Services and State Bank of India.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Grasim Industries was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 2.55% to close at ₹2,807.80. Asian Paints (-2.4%), Adani Enterprises (-2.28%), Ultratech Cement (-2.06%) and Hero MotoCorp (-2.06%) were also among the losers.

On the flipside, Mahindra & Mahindra (0.74%), Maruti Suzuki (0.63%), Bharat Electronics (0.25%), Bharti Airtel (0.16%) and Titan (0.07%) were among the notable gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index fell 0.14% or 79 points to close at 57,630. As many 61 shares ended lower while 31 ended higher.

Ola Electric was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 3.75% to close at ₹46.98. The stock fell for second straight session after VAHAN data was released, which showed Ola Electric had recorded 9,522 registrations as compared to 10,248 for Arther Energy as of August 20.

Bharat Forge (-2.54%), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (-2.45%), Colgate Palmolive (-2.32%) and Motilal Oswal (-2.11%) were also among the laggards.

On the other hand, Aditya Birla Fashion and retail was to gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock surged 7.28% to close at ₹81.16 on the back of higher than usual trading volumes. The stock's trading volume jumped by 7.7 times to 8.74 crore shares compared with average trading volume of 1.13 crore shares.

Vodafone Idea rose 7.18% after reports claimed that the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is planning to take a call on a relief proposal for the telecom major.

Bharti Hexacom (3.53%), SJVN (2.11%) and Solar Industries (1.81%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index fell 0.26% or 47 points to close at 17,919. As many as 60 shares ended lower while 39 closed higher.

Godfrey Philips was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 4.77% to close at ₹10,550. Ramco Cements (-2.83%), IDBI Bank (-2.75%), Inventurus Knowledge Solutions (-2.31%) and Devyani International (-2.25%) were also among the losers.

On the contrary, Zen Technologies (4.99%), Swan Energy (3%), Poonawalla Fincorp (3%), Atul (2.55%) and Sagility India (1.6%) were among gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
