The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, rebounded on Wednesday, August 13, as metal, auto, and pharma shares rallied on the back of global cues.

The positive sentiment in the market was also brought about by the July retail inflation data, which reached 1.55%, the lowest since June 2017. It marked the ninth straight month that inflation has fallen.

The SENSEX surged 304.32 points to settle at 80,539.91, while the 50-share NIFTY edged up by 131.95 points or 0.54% to 24,619.35.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was bolstered by gains in the stock of Apollo Hospitals Enterprises, which closed 8.2% higher. During the day’s trade, the share zoomed to its 52-week high of ₹7,840 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) after it reported a 42% YoY growth in its net profit to ₹433 crore in Q1FY26.

It was followed by Hindalco (5.09%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories (2.71%), Cipla (2.52%), and Hero MotoCorp (2.35%), which were among the top gainers on August 13.

On the other hand, the top losers pack was led by IndusInd Bank, which slipped 1.26%. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (-1.26%), ITC (-0.72%), Titan (-0.43%), and Tech Mahindra (-0.35%) trailed behind IndusInd Bank.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, rose as much as 0.63% or 356.65 points to 56,681.50 on Wednesday. The index was supported by Bharat Dynamics, which closed 6.90% higher.

It was followed by BSE Ltd (5.5%), FSN E-Commerce Ventures (5.15%), Alkem Laboratories (4.48%), and Vishal Mega Mart (3.45%), which were among the top gainers.

On the flipside, shares of Waaree Energies slumped 5.08%. The top laggards included SJVN (-4.44%), Suzlon Energy (-4.42%), Oil India (-4.15%), and Bharti Hexacom (-3.49%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 settled at 17,613.95, up 115.85 points or 0.66% on August 13. It was held up by buying in HBL Engineering (8.16%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (5.35%), Angel One (4.99%), Kaynes Technology India (4.83%), and Godfrey Phillips India (4.54%).

On the contrary, PG Electroplast (-5.76%), Reliance Power (-4.48%), Bata India (-3.57%), Jupiter Wagons (-3.57%), and Aditya Birla Real Estate (-3.02%) were among the top losers.
