The Indian equity benchmarks skyrocketed on Wednesday, April 8, as sentiment improved after United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire for two weeks triggering a rally in global equity markets and sending the price of crude oil in international markets below $100 a barrel. The benchmarks posted their biggest single day gain since March 13, 2020, data from the BSE showed.

The SENSEX climbed 3.95% or 2,946 points to close at 77,562.90 and NIFTY50 index surged 874 points or 3.78% to settle at 23,997.35.

With today's surge in equity markets, investors' wealth soared by ₹17.07 lakh crore.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Shriram Finance was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock advanced 10.14% to close at ₹1,025. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (8.75%), Adani Enterprises (8.65%), Eicher Motors (8.55%) and InterGlobe Aviation (8.09%) were also among the top gainers in the NIFTY50 index.

On the flip side, Coal India (-3.02%), Tech Mahindra (-1.35%), Nestle India (-0.67%), Wipro (-0.55%) and Sun Pharma (-0.29%) were notable losers in the NIFTY50 index.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index surged 4.03% or 2,199 points to settle at 56,799.50. A total of 92 shares ended higher while eight shares ended lower.

Ashok Leyland was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock soared 12.67% to close at ₹172, mirroring gains in other auto sector shares.

Hindustan Petroleum (10.12%), Aditya Birla Capital (9.67%), AU Small Finance Bank (9.17%) and Groww (9%) were also among the top gainers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

On the other hand, Oil India (-4.6%), National Aluminium Company (-2.81%), Marico (-0.58%), Astral (-0.42%) and Persistent Systems (-0.21%) were top losers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index rose 4.4% or 695 points to settle at 16,538. As many as 97 shares in the index closed higher.

Cholamandalam Financial Holdings was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 16.13% to close at ₹1,621.90.

Force Motors (11.10%), Pine Labs (11%), Bandhan Bank (10.61%) and PG Electroplast (9.71%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.

On the contrary, GE Shipping (-2.42%), Firstsource Solutions (-2.29%) and Godawari Power and Ispat (-0.16%) were notable losers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
