The Indian equity benchmarks staged a strong rebound on Wednesday, April 2, after falling 1.5% in the previous session a day ahead of 'Liberation Day' tariff announcement by the US President Donald Trump. The SENSEX rose as much as 656 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 23,350. The SENSEX ended 593 points or 0.78% higher at 76,617.44 and NIFTY50 index advanced 167 points to close at 23,332.

Analysts said that Tata Consumer Products is poised for strong earnings per share (EPS) growth over FY25-27. The broking firm expects a tea margin recovery with price hikes taken by the company.
Zomato (4.80%), Titan (3.86%), IndusInd Bank (2.97%) and Tech Mahindra (2.10%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Bharat Electronics was top loser in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock fell 3.27% to close at ₹282.45 after the company said that its order book in financial year 2024-25 came in at ₹23,000 crore which was below its order guidance.
Nestle India declined 1.22% to close at ₹2,234 after analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch said that Nestle’s valuations are high considering its growth outlook. Ultratech Cement (-0.91%), Bajaj Finserv (-0.81%) and Power Grid (-0.78%) were also among the losers.
The NIFTY Midcap 100 outperformed the NIFTY50 index as the measure of 100 midcap stocks on the National Stock Exchange rose 1.61% or 824 points to close at 52,053.20. As many as 82 shares in the index closed higher while 18 closed lower.
Kalyan Jewellers was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock surged 11.95% to close at ₹512.80 on the back of heavy trading volumes. Over 3.85 crore shares changed hand in trade on Wednesday as against an average 3.91 lakh shares.
Bharat Dynamics rose 5.53% to close at ₹1,314 after the company informed exchanges that recorded turnover of ₹3,300 crore in financial year 2024-25, up 40% from the previous financial year. The order included highest-ever export turnover of ₹1,200 crore.
Godrej Properties advanced 5.21% after the company said that it sold homes worth ₹2,000 crore at the launch of its luxury project Godrej Riverine in Noida. PB Fintech (4.45%), Dixon Technologies (3.95%) and Prestige Estates (3.92%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Waaree Energies (-4.24%) and Premier Energies (-2.42%) were among the top losers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index after Bernstein said that both the companies face tough challenges from industry giants Reliance Industries (RIL) and Adani Enterprises.

M&M Financial Services (-2.84%), Mankind Pharma (-1.71%) and Bharti Hexacom (-1.31%) were also among the losers.
NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 1.12% or 179 points to close at 16,162. A total of 81 shares in the index ended higher while 19 closed lower. Shyam Metalics and Energy was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 5.87% to close at ₹911.
PNB Housing Finance shares ended 5.40% higher at ₹920 after the company informed exchanges that its loan book for affordable housing surged to ₹5,000 crore as on March 31, 2025.
Kaynes Technologies (5.02%), Himadri Speciality Chemical (4.75%) and Dr Lal Path Labs (4.58%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Nuvama Wealth Management was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 3.07% to settle at ₹5,740. KEC International (-3.07%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (-1.91%), Sagility India (-1.68%) and Castrol India (-1.67%) were also among the laggards in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
