Top gainers and losers, October 29: NTPC, Adani Ports, ONGC rise over 2.6%; check full list

The National Stock Exchange benchmark NIFTY50 index ended above 26,000 level for the first time in over a year. Last time the index closed above 26,000 mark was on September 27, 2024, data from NSE showed.

The NIFTY50 index rose as much as 162 points to hit an intraday high of 26,097.85 and the 30-share SENSEX surged as much as 478 points to hit an intraday high of 85,105.83 led by gains in index heavyweights like Reliance industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, NTPC, State Bank of India and HCL Technologies.

Speaking in South Korea ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Trump said, “I’m doing a trade deal with India, and I have great respect and love for Prime Minister Modi. We have a great relationship.”

The SENSEX ended 369 points higher at 84,997 and NIFTY50 index advanced 118 points to close at 26,054.

NIFTY50 gainers and losers

NTPC was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock rose 2.9% to close at ₹349 after the company informed exchanges that its subsidiary NTPC Green has been categorised as a Schedule A Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) by the government of India.

Adani Ports (2.69%), ONGC (2.61%), Power Grid (2.43%) and JSW Steel (2.4%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Dr Reddy's Labs was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 2.4% to close at ₹1,258.

Coal India declined 2.16% after it reported a 31% decline in its consolidated net profit at ₹4,354 crore for the second quarter of financial year 2025-26. Its profit for the same quarter last fiscal year was at ₹6,289 crore.

The company’s revenue from operations for Q2 FY26 slipped 3.19% to ₹30,187 crore as against ₹31,182 crore reported in the corresponding quarter last fiscal year.

Coal India’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) decreased 22% to ₹6,716 crore for Q2 FY26 as compared to ₹8,617 crore in Q2 FY25.

Bharat Electronics (-1.44%), Eternal (-1.18%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.11%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index surged 0.64% or 384 points to close at 60,149. As many as 72 shares ended higher while 28 closed lower.

SAIL was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 6.15% to close at ₹140 mirroring gains in other metal shares after price of ferrous metals like copper surged to record highs in the international markets.

M&M Financial Services (5%), Hudco (4.42%), HPCL (4.15%) and BHEL (3.7%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Motilal Oswal was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 7.9% to close at ₹1,005 after market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) proposed a comprehensive overhaul of mutual fund regulations, introducing a clearer definition of total expense ratio (TER).

HDFC AMC (-4.33%), 360One Wam (-3.64%), PB Fintech (-2.87%) and Indus Towers (-1.17%) were also among the laggards in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index rose 0.43% or 80 points to close at 18,488. As many as 67 shares ended higher while 33 closed lower.

Five-Star Business Finance was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock surged 13% to close at ₹60 after its net profit in second quarter rose 7% to ₹286 crore. Aditya Birla Real Estate (7.1%), Reliance Power (5.88%), NBCC (5.16%) and MRPC (3.99%) were also among the gainers.

Credit Access Graameen was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 4.54% to close at ₹1,410. KFIN Tech (-3.81%), CAMS (-3.22%), Star Health (-2.96%) and Anand Rathi Wealth (-2.65%) were also among the losers.
