“Indian equity benchmarks extended their losing streak to a third consecutive session, as persistent selling pressure and weak global cues weighed on sentiment. The market opened lower and extended losses in early trade, with the Nifty 50 falling more than 1% intraday, before late-session buying helped trim the decline,” said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, a SEBI - registered online trading and wealth tech firm.

He further stated that crude oil was the main drag, with WTI near $100 a barrel, while rising US-Iran tensions in West Asia and fears of supply disruption revived worries over inflation and the import bill.

“The rupee also weakened today, reversing course to trade near 94.8 against the dollar after eight straight sessions of gains. The broader market stayed weak, and global cues stayed negative, with a broad sell-off across Asian markets,” Ponmudi R added.

On Thursday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹3,458.70 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹2,891.32 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.
