Top gainers and losers, Oct 24: Cipla falls 4%, Hindustan Unilever down 3%, Hindalco rises over 4%; check full list

Top gainers and losers: Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in the red on Friday, October 24, amid profit-taking in FMCG and banking shares following a six-day rally and fresh foreign fund outflows. Both the indices hit their 52-week highs on Thursday.

Snapping its six-day winning streak, the 30-share BSE SENSEX declined 344.52 points or 0.41% to close at 84,211.88. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 slipped 96.25 points or 0.37% to 25,795.15 as 34 of its constituents closed lower and 16 with gains.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth ₹1,165.94 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs), however, were net buyers, purchasing equities worth ₹3,893.73 crore on a net basis in the previous trade.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was dragged down by Cipla, which closed 3.68% lower, on the back of profit booking as investors booked profit after the drugmaker signed an agreement with Eli Lilly and Company (India) to distribute and promote type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management drug tirzepatide under a new brand name, Yurpeak, in India.

It was followed by selling in Hindustan Unilever (-3.33%), Max Healthcare Institute (-2.25%), UltraTech Cement (-1.93%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (-1.82%), which were among the top losers on Friday.

On the flip side, Hindalco Industries shares surged 4.11%, amid a sharp rise in aluminium prices due to supply shortages.

Other top gainers included ICICI Bank (1.05%), Bharti Airtel (1%), Shriram Finance (0.97%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.94%).

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, declined as much as 140.05 points, or 0.24%, to 59,231.20 on October 24.

The index was weighed down by Supreme Industries, which ended 3.37% lower. It was followed by Patanjali Foods (-2.25%), Colgate Palmolive (-2.05%), Astral (-1.92%), and Hitachi Energy India (-1.84%), which were among the top laggards.

On the contrary, the stock of National Aluminium Company gained 3.38%. Cummins India (3.04%), Tata Communications (2.04%), Blue Star (1.87%), and Cochin Shipyard (1.68%) were also among the top winners.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 settled at 18,253.35, down 38.10 points or 0.21% on Friday. It was pulled down by Jindal Saw (-3.80%), Aegis Vopak Terminals (-3.35%), Multi Commodity Exchange of India (-2.85%), International Gemmological Institute (India) (- 2.28%), and BLS International Services (-2.26%).

On the other hand, the top gainers included CreditAccess Grameen (6.23%), Cholamandalam Financial Holdings (5.8%), Hindustan Copper (3.58%), Signatureglobal (India) (3.43%), and PNB Housing Finance (3.16%).
