The 30-share BSE SENSEX ended 84.11 points, or 0.10%, higher at 84,562.78, while the 50-share NSE NIFTY edged higher by 30.90 points, or 0.12%, to settle at 25,910.05.
Tata Motors CV led the NIFTY50 pack, closing 3.2% higher, despite posting a consolidated net loss of ₹867 crore in Q2FY26.
The company said that its profits were adversely impacted by mark-to-market losses of approximately ₹2,000 crore related to its recently listed investments in Tata Capital. As a result, the company posted a profit before tax (before exceptional items) of ₹(0.6)K crore and a net income of ₹(0.9)K crore for the quarter.
It was followed by Eternal (2.15%), Bharat Electronics (1.6%), Axis Bank (1.57%), and Trent (1.52%), which were among the top gainers on Friday.
BEL’s shares gained after it reported that it secured additional orders worth ₹871 crore for fire control systems, thermal imagers, ground support equipment, upgrades, spares, services, and more.
On the other hand, shares of Infosys closed in the red, down 2.33%. Eicher Motors (-2.27%), Tata Steel (-1.50%), HDFC Life Insurance Company (-1.27%), and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (-1.27%) were the day’s top losers.
NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, closed in the green at 60,739.20 (+47.15 points or 0.03%).
The gains were led by buying in Muthoot Finance (9.93%). The financier reported a robust set of numbers for the September FY26 quarter, posting an over 87% rise in its consolidated net profit to ₹2,345 crore for the second quarter ended September 2025, compared to ₹1,251.1 crore in the year-ago period.
The other top winners included Jubilant Foodworks (7.34%), Bharat Dynamics (6.13%), Vodafone Idea (4.58%), and Swiggy (2.85%).
On the flipside, Premier Energies fell as much as 5.86%. Supreme Industries (-3.26%), Astral (-2.62%), SRF (-2.61%), and Steel Authority of India (-2.23%) were among the other top laggards.
The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index increased by 68.85 points or 0.38% to close at 18,252.50.
The gains were led by HBL Engineering, which closed 7.79% higher. It was followed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (5.61%), Sagility (5.43%), NBCC (5.01%), and Star Health and Allied Insurance Company (4.84%), which were among the top gainers.
On the contrary, Poonawalla Fincorp (-2.28%), Brainbees Solutions (-2.26%), Newgen Software Technologies (-2.21%), Aegis Vopak Terminals (-2.05%), and Trident (-1.88%) were among the top losers.
