Furthermore, investor sentiment was also impacted by the rupee falling to an all-time low of 94.82 (provisional) against the US dollar, along with elevated oil prices on March 27.
On Wednesday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹1,805.37 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹5,429.78 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.
The SENSEX crashed by as many as 1,739.04 points to an intraday low of 73,534.41, while the NIFTY50 touched the session’s low of 22,804.55.

Shriram Finance dragged the NIFTY50 index, slipping 5.54%.
It was followed by Tata Motors PV (-4.92%), Reliance Industries (-4.61%), InterGlobe Aviation (-4.48%) and Eternal (-3.91%), which were also among the top losers on Friday.
Shares of Tata Motors PV declined amid news reports that the company's flagship arm, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), has temporarily stopped production on car lines at its Solihull plant because of a parts issue involving a supplier. Solihull is a town in the east of the West Midlands county, England.
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) closed in the green (4.03%).
The other top gainers included Wipro (1.22%), Bharti Airtel (0.82%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.42%) and Coal India (0.32%).

NSE’s NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge slumped 2.25% or 1,223.25 points to close at 54,097.80 on March 27. Just eight out of 100 of its shares advanced during the session, while the remaining were in the red.
The index was weighed down by selling in the shares of Godfrey Phillips India (-7.28%), ITC Hotels (-5.76%), One 97 Communications (-5.26%), Phoenix Mills (-5.03%) and UPL (-4.97%).
On the flip side, Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS) surged as much as 5.30%, as it entered into a definitive agreement with one of its existing customers, a global bank headquartered in the USA.
It added that under the agreement, the company will enter into a proposed transaction pursuant to which, inter alia, it will license to the customer certain software products in perpetuity, provide certain transition services, personnel and related aspects.
It was followed by LIC Housing Finance (2.09%), Adani Total Gas (1.38%), Oil India (1.26%) and National Aluminium Company (1.01%), which were among the top winners.
The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index slipped by 1.74% or 276.55 points to end at 15,620.
Its top losers included PG Electroplast (-5.84%), BLS International Services (-5.81%), Reliance Power (-5.38%), Firstsource Solutions (-5.29%) and Deepak Fertilizers And Petrochemicals Corporation (-5.06%).
On the contrary, Sagility (6.32%), Karur Vysya Bank (3.35%), Aster DM Healthcare (2.55%), Hindustan Copper (2.51%) and Affle (2.32%) were among the top gainers.
