Top gainers and losers, July 20: Axis Bank, HDFC Bank shares drop over 5%, Trent up 3%; check full list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in negative territory on Monday, July 20, amid selling in private bank stocks, such as HDFC Bank and Axis Bank.

Furthermore, investor sentiment was impacted by a surge in crude oil prices in the global markets, as the United States, on Sunday, carried out strategic targeted military attacks against Iran, destroying military command centres, air defence and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks.

During the trading session, the SENSEX slumped as much as 1% to touch an intraday low of 77,368.29. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 touched the session’s low of 24,135.85.

On July 20, the SENSEX declined by 442.93 points or 0.57% to close at 77,708.52, while the NIFTY50 ended at 24,238.50, down by 95.80 points or 0.39%.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Axis Bank weighed down the NIFTY50 index, closing 5.37% lower despite its standalone net profit after tax (PAT) advancing 22.5% to ₹7,114 crore in the June quarter of the financial year ended 2026-27, compared with ₹5,806 crore in the same period a year ago.

It was followed by HDFC Bank (-5.08%), following the lender's June quarter earnings (Q1 FY27) that were released on Saturday. The country's biggest private sector lender on Saturday reported a 5% increase in standalone profit to ₹19,060 crore for the June quarter.

However, the bank's total income during the quarter under review dropped to ₹92,184 crore from ₹99,200 crore in the same period a year ago, HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing.

Maruti Suzuki India (-5.08%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (-1.96%) and Jio Financial Services (-1.66%) were among the other top losers on Monday.

On the flipside, Trent (3.04%), Power Grid Corporation of India (2.01%), Nestle India (1.81%), NTPC (1.65%) and Bharti Airtel (1.63%) were among the top gainers of the day.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge advanced by 0.60% or 373.70 points to close at 62,801.75 on July 20.

The index was supported by buying in the shares of JSW Energy (4.64%), Oil India Ltd (3.69%), Mankind Pharma (3.66%), Colgate Palmolive (3.55%), and Indian Bank (2.89%), which were among its top winners.

On the other hand, its top laggards included AU Small Finance Bank (-3.51%), Yes Bank (-2.80%), Swiggy (-2.34%), SBI Cards and Payment Services (-2.21%), and Billionbrains Garage Ventures (-2.11%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index jumped by 0.16% or 30.15 points to end at 19,326.45.

The top gainers in the pack were Himadri Speciality Chemical (3.97%), Navin Fluorine International (3.97%), Manappuram Finance (3.70%), Neuland Laboratories (3.29%) and Jyoti CNC Automation (3.01%).

On the contrary, Capri Global Capital (-2.72%), Ola Electric Mobility (-2.56%), Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals (-2.48%), Data Patterns (-2.34%) and BEML (-2.34%) were among the top losers.
