On Thursday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold stocks worth ₹393.97 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased equities worth ₹2,638.76 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.
The SENSEX slumped by 296.59 points or 0.36% to close at 82,269.78. Meanwhile, NIFTY50 ended at 25,320.65, down by 98.25 points or 0.39%.
Hindalco Industries weighed down the NIFTY50 index, slipping 5.98%.
It was followed by Tata Steel (-4.83%), Coal India (-3.43%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (-2.32%) and JSW Steel (-2.13%), which were among the top losers on Friday.
On the other hand, Nestle India closed in the green (3.32%), as it reported a 46.23% YoY increase in its standalone net profit at ₹1,018.06 crore in the third quarter of FY26, compared to ₹696.13 crore in the year-ago period.
Tata Consumer Products (2.49%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (2.35%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.49%) and ITC (1.19%) were among the day’s top gainers.
Shares of ITC rose after it reported a standalone net profit of ₹5088.83 crore for the quarter ended December 2025, down 6.1% year-on-year compared to ₹5421.36 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Profitability was impacted by the one-time new labour code cost of ₹273.83 crore.
It also announced an interim dividend of ₹6.5 per share for its shareholders, with the company fixing February 4, 2026, as the record date for the dividend. Meanwhile, dividends will be paid between Thursday, February 26, 2026, and Saturday, February 28, 2026, to eligible shareholders.
NSE’s NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge declined 0.19% or 109 points to close at 58,432 on January 30.
The index was dragged down by National Aluminium Company, which closed 10.69% lower, as metal stocks crashed amid volatile metal prices on the global front.
The other top laggards included Muthoot Finance (-6.69%), NTPC Green Energy (-6.63%), Housing & Urban Development Corporation (-6.13%) and NMDC (-4.26%).
On the flip side, Vodafone Idea shares closed 10.75% higher. It surged as much as 13.32% to an intraday high of ₹11.38 apiece after the company, in an investor presentation, said that it plans to invest ₹45,000 crore over the next three years to return to a growth trajectory.
During the company’s earnings call for the third quarter of the current fiscal year (Q3 FY26), Vodafone Idea (Vi) CEO Abhijit Kishore said the company will expand network coverage in 17 out of 22 telecom circles to bring it at par with competitors and try to convert 2G sites in the five circles in the next three years.
"We are going to commit ₹45,000 crore of investment over the next three years in this business, and this is in addition to the ₹18,000 crore that we have already invested over the last six quarters," Kishore said.
The other top winners included Blue Star (5.17%), Aurobindo Pharma (4.20%), Vishal Mega Mart (3.64%) and Cochin Shipyard (3.13%).
The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index surged by 0.32% or 54.10 points to end at 16,879.10.
Signatureglobal (7.54%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (6.81%), Gillette India (5.77%), Neuland Laboratories (5.24%) and Aarti Industries (4.79%) were among the top gainers.
On the contrary, the top losers of the pack were Hindustan Copper (-11.07%), Multi Commodity Exchange of India (-6.37%), Deepak Fertilizers And Petrochemicals Corporation (-4.57%), Manappuram Finance (-4.18%) and International Gemmological Institute (-3.66%).
