On Thursday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased stocks worth ₹108.42 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹276.85 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.
The SENSEX slumped by 1,048.16 points or 1.25% to close at 82,626,76. Meanwhile, NIFTY50 ended at 25,471.10, down by 336.10 points or 1.30%.
Hindalco Industries weighed down the NIFTY50 index, slipping 6.08%, after its consolidated net profit fell 45% YoY to ₹2,049 crore in the December FY26 quarter.
It had clocked a profit of ₹3,735 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.
It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (-4.34%), Eternal (-4.30%), Adani Enterprises (-3.83%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (-3.20%), which were among the top losers on Friday.
On the flipside, Bajaj Finance (3.09%), Eicher Motors (1.56%), SBI Life Insurance Company (0.84%), State Bank of India (0.33%) and Cipla (0.13%) were among the only gainers of the day.

The index was dragged down by Muthoot Finance, which closed 11.80% lower, despite reporting record numbers in Q3 earnings performance on Thursday.
Its profit increased by 94.9% YoY to ₹2,656 crore in Q3FY26, compared to ₹1,363 crore in the same period last year.
It was followed by Alkem Laboratories (-8.01%), National Aluminium Company (-5.42%), Coforge (-4.40%) and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services (-4.23%), which were among the top laggards.
Shares of Alkem Industries fell despite the drugmaker posting a 1.62% increase in its consolidated profit after tax to ₹636.02 crore in the latest December quarter, compared to ₹625.82 crore a year back. It also declared an interim dividend of ₹43 per share for the financial year 2025-26. The record date is February 20.
On the other hand, Max Financial Services (1.19%), Blue Star (0.86%), Biocon (0.81%), Coromandel International (0.78%) and Astral (0.59%) were among the top winners.
The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index slumped by 1.79% or 311.20 points to end at 17,032.90.
Firstsource Solutions (-7.23%), Newgen Software Technologies (-5.28%), Hindustan Copper (-5.16%), Navin Fluorine International (-4.48%) and PCBL Chemical (-4.24%) were among the top losers.
On the contrary, the top gainers of the pack were Signatureglobal (5.91%), Zensar Technologies (1.76%), Piramal Pharma (1.68%), Go Digit General Insurance (1.55%) and IFCI (1.31%).
