Top gainers and losers, Aug 4: Grasim tumbles 4%, HDFC LIC down 3%, Apollo Hospitals rises 3%; check full list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in negative territory on Tuesday, August 4, amid selling in banking, tourism and financial services stocks.

The SENSEX slumped as much as 0.5% to touch an intraday low of 78,211.87. The NIFTY50 tumbled as much as 1.4% to reach the session’s low of 24,427.95.

On August 4, the SENSEX declined by 210.08 points or 0.27% to close at 78,428.95. Meanwhile, NIFTY50 ended at 24,614.90, down by 159.40 points or 0.64%.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Grasim Industries weighed down the NIFTY50 index, closing 3.74% lower.

It was followed by HDFC Life Insurance Company (-3.10%), Bajaj Auto (-2.16%), Reliance Industries (-2.13%) and Max Healthcare Institute (-2.13%), which were among the top losers on Tuesday.

On the flipside, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (2.61%), Hindalco Industries (2.52%), Trent (1.89%), Jio Financial Services (0.76%) and ITC (0.70%) were among the top gainers of the day.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge declined by 0.29% or 187.70 points to close at 63,491.60 on August 4.

The top losers included UPL (-6.15%), Prestige Estates Projects (-4.49%), Oberoi Realty (-4.42%), Dabur India (-3.79%) and Colgate Palmolive (India) (-3.23%).

Shares of Dabur India declined after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) prohibited the company from selling several food products carrying misleading '100%' claims.

On the other hand, KEI Industries (9.49%), Steel Authority of India (5.18%), Godfrey Phillips India (4%), Exide Industries (3.44%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (2.36%) were among the top winners.

The stock of KEI Industries advanced as the company reported its earnings for the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q1 FY27). It reported a 40.05% year-on-year (YoY) surge in its consolidated net profit to ₹274.14 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹195.75 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, supported by margin expansion.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index jumped by 0.23% or 45.90 points to end at 19,635.25.

The top gainers in the pack were Ather Energy (14.25%), Netweb Technologies India (3.17%), Sai Life Sciences (2.91%), Firstsource Solutions (2.65%) and Data Patterns (India) (2.63%).

Shares of Ather Energy surged as investors focused on the company reducing its net losses in the April to June quarter results of FY2026-27 due to strong revenue growth.

Key focus of investors remained on the EV maker’s strong revenue growth, improvement in overall profitability and margins, along with the demand potential among electric two-wheelers in the Indian market.

On the contrary, Nuvama Wealth Management (-3.78%), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (-2.91%), BEML (-2.90%), Urban Company (-2.73%) and Neuland Laboratories (-2.50%) were among the top losers.
