Texmaco Rail secures $135 million diesel-electric locomotive export order; stock jumped over 7%

Railway wagon and locomotive manufacturer Texmaco Rail’s board of directors on Tuesday, September 1, said that the company has secured a $135 million diesel-electric locomotive export order from two foreign entities based in South Africa.

NSE filings showed that Tsiko Africa Logistics, in collaboration with Barberry Holdings, awarded the company the $135 million export order to design, manufacture, supply and commission diesel-electric locomotives.

The deal details further showed that Texmaco Rail will supply Wabtec ES43ACi – 4,500 horsepower (HP) diesel-electric locomotives to the South African companies.

On the order value breakdown front, the export order, which is valued at $135 million, is exclusive of the applicable taxes and duties.

Texmaco Rail also disclosed that the company is estimated to execute the export order within 20 to 24 months from the date of signing the definitive agreement.

NSE data also showed that Texmaco Rail shares rallied 7.2% to their intraday high of ₹116.90 apiece on Tuesday’s market, in comparison to ₹108.95 apiece at the previous equity market close.

The trading volumes surged by more than 8 million equity shares during the trading session on September 1.

MoU with German firm

Last week, Texmaco Rail signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the German company, Bochumer Verein Verkehrstechnik GmbH, as the two companies aim to explore and pursue potential collaboration in the field of railway wheels, wheelsets, axles and related rail vehicle components.

The filings further showed that the MoU remains effective for 12 months from the execution date and during the term the deal contains exclusivity provisions in relation to the contemplated purpose.

How have Texmaco Rail shares performed?

Texmaco Rail shares delivered more than 277% returns to investors in the last five years, but the stock has lost 24% in the last three years, and more than 19% of its value in the past one-year period.

NSE data showed that the company’s stock has lost 17% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis, but the shares were trading near flat levels or 0.7% higher in the last one-month period. The company’s stock was trading 3.9% higher over the last five market sessions.

Shares of Texmaco Rail surged to their 52-week high of ₹153 apiece on September 19, 2025, while the 52-week low was at ₹78.05 apiece on March 30, 2026, as per the exchange data.

The company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at ₹4,588 crore as of the trading session on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
