Tata Technologies announced on Tuesday it has collaborated with Microsoft and Tata Motors for the second edition of the InnoVent Hackathon for engineering students.

The theme of this year’s Hackathon is focused on leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) across the product development value chain which includes product engineering, manufacturing, and customer experience.

Generative AI has been the buzzword in recent times with shares of global chip companies like Nvidia and AMD soaring to record highs. Nvidia even became the world’s most valuable company dethroning Microsoft and its market cap has hit a whopping $3.3 trillion.

Meanwhile, Tata Technologies pointed out that the projects will be evaluated in three stages — initial reviews, virtual Proof of Concept (PoC) presentations, and final demonstrations.

Tata Technologies will empower the top project teams with the innovation tools and technologies needed to develop scalable innovations. The subject matter experts (SMEs) from Tata Technologies will mentor and guide the top-performing project team/s to scale their projects. Microsoft will offer top teams complimentary access to Azure resources and project mentoring through the Azure community, while Tata Motors will help define real-world challenges and support the commercialisation of top projects.

The top three winning teams will receive a cumulative cash prize of ₹4.5 lakh along with paid internships at Tata Technologies. The hackathon is open to 3rd and 4th-year engineering students in India and also encourages participation from women engineers and differently-abled team members.

Warren Harris, managing director and chief executive officer of Tata Technologies said through the firm’s collaboration with Microsoft and Tata Motors, it aims to provide young innovators with a platform to develop novel solutions leveraging Generative AI and help them translate their ideas to life. “The first edition of InnoVent was a success and we are already piloting a few innovations with our customers,” he said.

Shares of Tata Technologies have declined by nearly 12% since the beginning of the year. The stock has lost over 21% in the last one year.
