Suzlon Energy shares soar over 2% on securing favourable CESTAT ruling; all you need to know

Suzlon Energy share price: Shares of Suzlon Energy surged as much as 2.04% to an intra-day high of ₹53.10 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, December 12, after the Customs Excise & Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT), Mumbai, ruled in its favour, cutting the penalty down from ₹21.92 crore to nil.

The stock was trading 1.13% higher at ₹52.63 per equity share at around 10:43 am.

The scrip has gained over 2% in the past week but lost more than 9% over the month. On a year-to-date basis, it has fallen nearly 19%.

While the share reached a 52-week high of ₹74.30 on May 30, 2025, it touched a year’s low of ₹46.15 apiece on April 7, 2025.

“The Honourable CESTAT, Mumbai, disposed of the matter after the same was referred back to it by the Honourable Supreme Court, accepting the company’s submission and issuing the order dated 10th December 2025, wherein the appeals are allowed in favour of the company,” it said in a regulatory filing dated December 11.

The penalty was slashed to nil on the grounds of both merit and time limitation, the firm added.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, Pune-III Commissionerate, had imposed service tax under the Design Service on certain transactions carried out during the period 2007-2011 and levied a penalty of ₹21.92 crore (or ₹21,92,23,767).

Following this, the renewable energy firm had filed appeals before the CESTAT, Mumbai, disputing the levy on merits and limitation, it stated.

The penalty was levied in connection with the tax disputes reported in the integrated report for the September quarter of FY26, about the classification of designs and drawings imported under Product Development & Purchase Agreements involving a demand of ₹101.92 crore (tax, penalty and interest).

Following the reduction of the penalty, the Pune-based firm’s contingent liability will come down by ₹101.92 crore.

Q2 Results

It reported strong second-quarter earnings, with consolidated net profit growing over 539% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹1,279 crore for the second quarter of FY26, compared to ₹200 crore in the same period last year.

The company’s revenue from operations rose 85% annually to ₹3,866 crore during the quarter under review, as against ₹2,093 crore in the Second quarter of FY25.
